We Are Called!
She stood on my doorstep, wearing her red Teen Challenge poncho and a matching notebook in her hand. This young woman honestly shared that she used to do meth and had lost her little boy. She and her husband joined Teen Challenge together and she now has her son back.
I asked about her husband. She said he left the program.
The amazing thing here (besides that fact that Christ helped this young mom turn her life around and get her family back) is that I'd only returned home fifteen minutes prior from a morning event at my church.
The women's ministry had planned a "Meet the Author" event. I'd agreed a bit reluctantly to do this because I didn't want it to be about me. That morning blessed me beyond belief because I discovered these dear women wanted to support and encourage me in this writing and ministry journey. They were delighted to share it with me! What a blessing.
So, I had the privilege of spending my morning talking about our book and ministry and now, here stood this dear young woman who most likely walked the path of being spiritually mismatched.
This ministry I love so dearly now stood on my doorstep. God whispered to my heart to donate my tithe from my book sales that morning to this organization that I also am very happy to support whenever I can. And to give this precious Christian woman a copy of our book. I committed to pray for her that week and gave her a hug.
I had tears in my eyes as did she. That was no accident that we met. No, that was God's divine timing to bring encouragement to one and a reminder to another (me!) that we just never know when God will call us into action.
At church, our neighborhood, our doorsteps. And especially in our own homes.
We forget so often that our first place to serve is at home. I think this is especially true for us who are spiritually mismatched. At times we feel like our service to God is limited and we fall into this lie of thinking that if our spouse just believed, we could do so much more. But God has already called us to a very critical place of service in His kingdom.
Your own home.
If your spouse has rejected God, you are the closest influence of Christ to him or her. If you have children, they need to see their believing parent living their faith everyday to understand Who God is and how He works in our lives. There are lost souls right under your roof that God is calling you to be the aroma and presence of Christ to (2 Cor 2:14-16).
You are already a missionary in action. God has called you to a very special and unique place. Seek Him for guidance in how to serve in that place and embrace this calling as a unique blessing to help another find reconciliation with God (2 Cor. 5:19).
Praying and believing,
