Thankful In All Circumstances

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

This past year has been full of transitions for my family. The biggest one is becoming empty nesters. Our oldest daughter lives nearby but our youngest just moved 3000 miles away.

For the first time in my life as a parent, I won't have both my girls with me for Thanksgiving. And I'll be honest, it's a hard reality to adjust to.

But when I think about it, I realize two things. One, I was that daughter once. I can remember the first time I wasn't with my parents for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It wasn't easy for me or my mother, but we adjusted and grew to appreciate more our special celebrations in the past and and to be thankful for future times together.

The second is accepting that my daughter is exactly where she needs to be. It's not my preference but it is God's. He has a plan for her and this is part of it. Though I miss her terribly, I can be thankful she is thriving where she is and building a life I hope and pray will honor God.

Sometimes things don't work out the way we expect, but I have found there is always something good to be found in the circumstances. Sometimes they're even better than what we expected. Sometimes they're not, but we wind up gaining something we didn't expect.

Giving thanks in all circumstances is one of our greatest challenges in life. With my pessimistic tendencies, I've had to be intentional in this area of my life. But I've learned that even when we struggle to be thankful, just going before God with the desire to be thankful is enough.

Praying and believing,

Dineen

A Note From Lynn

Thanksgiving; A Divine Opportunity

Pilgrim Edward Winslow described the Pilgrims' Thanksgiving in these words:

"Our harvest being gotten in, our Governor sent four men on fowling (bird hunting) so that we might, after a special manner, rejoice together after we had gathered the fruit of our labors. They four in one day killed as much fowl as... served the company almost a week... Many of the Indians [came] amongst us and... their greatest King, Massasoit, with some ninety men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted; and they went out and killed five deer, which they brought... And although it be not always so plentiful as it was at this time with us, yet BY THE  GOODNESS OF GOD WE ARE... FAR FROM WANT."

My friends, we are indeed far from want in this country. And even more important is that we are the chosen of God.

At this time of year we have an matched opportunity to bring faith into our homes, to live our beliefs out in front of our unbelieving spouse and the extended family of unbelievers. Don't waist this chance.

Be intentional this year. Start your Tablecloth of Thanks. Decide today that you will dare to pray before dinner or perhaps even to read a scripture verse before you eat.

And most importantly, begin to pray NOW. Ask the Lord to prepare hearts, to bind evil from your celebration, to be a very real presence in your home and with family. Pray for wisdom and discernment that you are prepared to give an answer for the hope you have.

This very opportunity opened up to me with my unbelieving family when I was least expecting it a few years ago. It was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.

Ask our Great God to move mountains, tear down strongholds and to set the captives FREE. After all it was for freedom of religion that our country was founded by the pilgrims many years ago.

Lord, I ask for your profound presence in each heart and home this Thanksgiving. Lord, give us courage to pray and to lead, by a quiet example, the family to a rich heritage of faith and thanksgiving.

Lord, let all that we do this week as we celebrate our abundance and rich blessings, bring glory and fame to the name of Jesus.

It is in our Savior's name we pray. Amen

Be blessed and know that Dineen and I love you and give thanks to our Lord that you are walking this journey with us, Lynn

Tablecloth of Thanks

Lynn shared on the S.U.M blog about her wonderful Tablecloth of Thanks. One of our readers, Alisa, started her own tablecloth and shared this picture with us. What's even sweeter is the relationship she shares with an another special S.U.M. friend, Gail, who has come along side Alisa as a friend and mentor.

This is brilliant testimony and example of Titus 2 and 2 Corinthians 1:3-7. Gail shared, "We have such a fabulous time glorifying HIM."

These ladies are rich blessing to us, a precious gift from God that all we do is for Him and through Him. We are just two ordinary women blessed beyond measure to serve others in mismatched marriages like our own. We are blessed to serve YOU!

Hugs and prayers!

Best Pumpkin Chocolate
Chip Cookies Ever!

This is one of my family's favorite cookies and has become a part of our Thanksgiving tradition each year. The biggest challenge is waiting to make them closer to Thanksgiving so they aren't gobbled up before the holiday! I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Dineen
