Greetings!
As I'm sure most of you have heard by now, there was a tragic fire at Phillip Dutton's True Prospect Farm in the barn that Boyd Martin rents. Thankfully, they were able to save five horses (including Boyd's WEG partner Neville Bardos). Unfortunately, six horses were lost in the fire. Our hearts just break for all of their owners, including Seneca Valley Pony Club alum Lillian Heard who lost her promising young mare Ariel. Additionally, Ryan Wood and Caitlin Silliman lost all of their possessions, as they lived in the apartment above the barn.
We're going to keep this newsletter brief, but please look to the sidebar for all the links you'll need to learn more about the barn fire and what you can do to help with the relief effort.
Also included is our usual competition re-cap, and we'll also give you a preview to our summer activities.

Results Recap
 | Trip at the Virginia CCI*. Photo by Brant Gamma |
At the end of May I made the pilgrimage, along with a few hundred area eventers, to the Virginia Horse Center for their spring horse trials. I only brought Trip with me so I could concentrate on him as he was competing in his first one-star. Unfortunately, I was battling a cold all week, and was unable to shake it until after we got home. But such is life. Trip was great for the whole trip, and it's so fun to see him growing up.
He passed the jog with flying colors (thanks Jack and Haley!). He went on to score a very respectable 55.8 to place 11th out of 22 in dressage. Unfortunately, I was still in a fog from various cold medications on cross-country day, and didn't give him the best ride through one of the complexes and we picked up 20 penalties. The good news is that he came out of cross-country like a champ and jogged up great on Sunday morning. Once we got into the ring, it seemed the weekend's efforts caught up with both of us and we pulled two rails, but still finished 16th for the weekend. Not bad for his first one-star. Trip will be getting a brief vacation, then we'll try our hand again at Intermediate with the goal of a CIC** this fall.
