Exciting Opportunity!
After much brainstorming and thought, I've decided to offer up ownership shares of Trip and Texas in the form of a syndication. Keep reading for a quick preview and contact me if you'd like to learn more!
How It Works Both of my main competition horses, Mr. Indiscretion and Miss Texas, were given to me by local racehorse trainers. Having known me for years, they knew I was the person to turn these two horses into stars. Since there was no purchase involved, there is a bit more flexibility in both owning or sponsoring either horse. The hope is that this flexibility will allow more people to get involved.
Horse Ownership vs Horse Sponsorship
Specifically, support the competition string and you'll receive "ownership" shares in one of Katie's competition horses. Receive regular updates on competitions and how each horse's training is progressing via e-mail, photos, and a year-end report. We're looking to build up a team of dedicated individuals and companies. If you want to become involved, but don't know where to start, consider sponsoring one of Katie's horses for a month, a year, or even a single competition. OwnershipHave you ever wanted to experience the thrill of owning an elite athlete? Here's your chance! Rock Solid Training will be selling 49% of both Mr. Indiscretion and Miss Texas. This will allow for five 9.8% shares to be sold. Each share holder will have a one-time buy-in cost, plus a yearly maintenance fee (monthly and quarterly payments are available). Share holders will be listed on the web site and in show programs (when allowed). Mr. Indiscretion: $4,500 buy-in per share, plus a yearly $3,000 maintenance fee (only $250/mo.) Miss Texas: $2,500 buy-in per share, plus a yearly $1,500 maintenance fee (only $125/mo.) SponsorshipThe costs involved with campaigning an elite eventer range from $15,000 for a lower-level horse, such as Miss Texas, to $30,000 for an upper-level horse, such as Mr. Indiscretion. If you want to become involved, but aren't ready to become an owner, consider sponsoring Mr. Indiscretion or Miss Texas for a month or even a single competition. You can sponsor either horse at a local Horse Trials for as little as $400, or at a major international competition for $800. Or pay for Katie to take a lesson with one of her valued instructors for $100. Both horses love their chiropractic treatments, so you could treat them to a treatment for $75. Should you not be able to attend the competition or lesson, Katie will send you a full report, complete with photos and video!

Results Recap
 | Trip on his way to winning his Intermediate/Preliminary division at CDCTA. Photo courtesy CDCTA. |
The season started in Aiken at Paradise Farm Horse Trials. Mr. Indiscretion ("Trip") and Miss Texas made the trip down. We left a few days early so that I could fit in a lesson with Phillip Dutton before the show. He was impressed with both horses, and gave me some pointers on what to work on while at home. Trip was phenomenal for the entire trip and finished 6th in a very large, very competitive Open Preliminary division. Texas had a little bit of a harder time with this being her first big trip. She put in a lovely dressage round, but didn't feel quite right, so I decided to withdraw her after stadium. I immediately had the vet out when we got home to make sure that all was ok, and it seems that Texas is going through some growing pains. So she'll get a little time off while we figure out how best to keep her comfortable.
Back to Aiken for Full Gallop Farm Horse Trials in March for what turned out to be a less than successful trip. Trip made the move up to Intermediate, and put in a respectable dressage test, but wasn't jumping as well as I would have liked, so I retired before he scared himself. I'm not worried though, as I know what we need to work on.
Our first event at home was Morven Park's Spring Horse Trials. Bob Wherley's Jet was fit and ready to compete at Novice. Jet is not the hugest fan of dressage, but he jumped around cleanly to finish 11th in a large field of 22 horses. I was really happy with him, and look forward to seeing him out with his owner later this year.
After thinking about Trip's future, I decided on a run at CDCTA in the Intermediate/Preliminary division. This is a hybrid division where the horses do an Intermediate dressage and stadium test, and then a Preliminary cross-country round. This was the perfect thing for Trip, and he cruised around with confidence to WIN. Not only did he win a pretty blue ribbon, but he also brought home $250. Go Trip Go!

Welcome to Demery & Athena!
 | | Demery's new horse, Athena |
We're excited to welcome Demery Shriver and her new horse Athena to the Rock Solid Training team. Demery has been a student for a few months, and recently her family started searching for her next horse. After a few trials with other horses, we were lucky to find Athena at Kelley Williams' A Bit Better Farm in nearby Brookeville, Maryland. Athena is going to be a great project for Demery and I'm looking forward to helping them build their partnership.

A Tribute to BFF In Disguise!
 | Lisa Reid and Doobie
© Katherine Rizzo |
I wanted to take a moment to offer my sincere condolences to Lisa Reid and Black Fox Farm on the passing of their young stallion, BFF In Disguise. "Doobie," as he was known, was the product of years of careful breeding and training on Lisa's part. Doobie successfully competed through Preliminary with Lisa, and completed two one-stars with colleague Colleen Rutledge. Most recently, I had the pleasure of working with Lisa and Doobie while they smoothed out their show jumping skills. Doobie's legacy will live on in his progeny, and it will be exciting to see what they do in the future.
