Downtown Design Center Now Open
On January 13 the Downtown Design Center officially opened its doors with a ribbon cutting and open house.

Many community members attended the event and shared their ideas for Downtown Topeka. Attendees voted, drew pictures and discussed what they want to see in the design plan.
The Downtown Design Center serves as a place to share memories and stories of Downtown Topeka as well as what is envisioned for the area.
Design team members staff the design center, 828 S. Kansas Avenue that is open to the public: Tuesdays (noon to 2 p.m.) and Wednesdays (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
RDG Planning & Design along with their Topeka-based partners Cook, Flatt & Strobel, HTK Architects and Lattimer, Sommers and Associates will host an open design studio Thursday, January 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The public will be able to view rough sketches of the downtown design and provide input. Another community open house is scheduled for February 22 to allow the community to see the progress of the design and provide feedback. For more information visit: ActiveTheAvenue.com. |
Discovery Center to host a Kansas Weekend
Kansas Children's Discovery Center (KCDC) will host activities honoring Kansas' 151st birthday January 28 and 29.
Activities include guided Discovery Trail Tours, stories from the Underground Railroad and more. The K-State Research & Extension Office will be at KCDC on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. -- 4:00 p.m. teaching children about pioneer living. Satruday, January 28 Activities:

Topeka Rescue Mission to Host Public Forum d  The Topeka Rescue Mission will host a public forum Wednesday, February 1 at the Great Overland Station, 701 N. Kansas Avenue.
The forum begins at 5:30 p.m., doors open at 5:15 p.m.
The forum will discuss the following issues: - Recent expansion of Topeka Rescue Mission,
- Strategic plan for the future Collaboration of Homeless Services in Topeka,
- The acquisition of their newest property, 206 NW Morris.

NOTO Arts District -- Home to New Businesses
A year after NOTO's first tenant moved in, 11 businesses have opened their doors and 30 artists occupy studios on N. Kansas Avenue.
NOTO is now home to antique stores, artists' studios, and eateries. Four recent openings were celebrated during the last month's (January) First Friday Art Walk:
- Kaw Valley Mercantile,
- Rusty Haggles Antique and Artists Lofts,
- Southwest Traders,
- Second Chance Antiques & Collectibles.
NOTO has a full line up for February's First Friday Art Walk. First Friday Art Walkers will get to experience a taste of what the upcoming Saturday Arts Market will look like. Three booths will be staged in the NOTO Arts Center and will showcase food, drink and art.
