President's Letter

Hidey Ho, Neighbor!
Wilson here. |
Boy, time flies! Hard to believe it's already July and the Corn Roast is just around the corner! Your Board is busy planning this annual event and, as always, we really need all members to lend a hand. Please - when a committee person asks for an hour or so of your time - say "YES!" Remember, this is your club!
So, that brings me to the main topic of my musings this month: Just what does it mean to you to be a member? Do you belong just so that you can get a great deal on ski trips (and have a great group to ski with)? What about you non-skiers? What's in it for you? Your Board spent some time discussing this very question at last month's meeting, and came to at least one conclusion: There should be more of a sense of exclusivity for members. Soooo...the Board voted to adhere to the club's existing policy regarding non-member participation in club activates and will begin to enforce the "one guest rule" for upcoming events where monies are collected. This does not include such "pick up" events as Monday night volleyball, NOTTs and General Meetings. You are more than welcome (and highly encouraged) to invite a guest along on such things as the bike trip, canoe trip, whirly ball or the upcoming Fall Weekend in Grand Haven and will be asked to pay a bit more for their company, but we want to make our activities about our members, for our members.
We hope you agree, and the Board will continue to discuss ways that we can enhance the membership experience. NOTE: Ski trips will continue to require membership.
Votre Prsidente pour 2012-2013 (Happy Bastille Day and the 4th of July...Viva la Indpendance!)
Valerie
KUDOS CORNER Devy van Leijenhorst
Devy, the Dutchman, (or as we lovingly refer to him as "Corn Czar") has really gone above and beyond and actually VOLUNTEERED to chair this year's Corn Roast (and he's not even currently a Board member!) Devy has been active with the club for 5 years, and spent the last four years representing you on the Board. He is an avid cross-country skier and a vital participant on the Nordic Ski Committee.
For all you do, thank you, Devy! KUDOS TO YOU.

GOLF
Coordinators: DuWaine Hoy, Kirk Haverkamp, Debbie Spring
We will be playing golf every other Sunday this summer at various golf courses around the area through September, weather permitting. These are casual, fun outings. Partners and regular attendance are not required.
We play Sunday afternoons and frequently gather afterwards for a potluck cookout at someone's home. BYOB and a dish to pass. Other times we will gather at the course clubhouse or a nearby tavern to socialize afterward. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the post-golf gatherings.
DuWaine, Kirk and Deb will rotate leading the events. Email the leader back by the Wednesday before the outing to sign up.
All skill levels are welcome but you must adhere to the Rules of Golf Etiquette and play Ready Golf and keep up the pace. Pick up your ball after you hit double par and proceed to the next tee. This applies to scrambles and individual golfers.
Players are responsible for their own green fees and cart rental. No shows are obligated to pay by course rules. Please arrive 30 minutes early to take care of your green fees and to form the foursomes. We play a lot of 18 hole events with the option to drop out after 9.
We are working out our 2012 Schedule. Here is what we have so far for dates and locations. Times to be determined. Read your eblasts and check the calendar for more information.
