EPIC's September Email Newsletter
Greetings!
Colorado's Early Childhood Leadership Commission (ECLC) is tasked with aligning programs, coordinating data, and taking a comprehensive view of funding programs that serve the youngest Coloradans. EPIC is fortunate to have three CEO Roundtable Members and an Executive Committee member on the Commission: Pat Hamill co-chairs the Commission, and Greg Anton, Brad Busse, and Chris Watney are commissioners.
At a recent finance subcommittee meeting, EPIC and the ECLC partnered to begin work on Best Practices for Businesses with regard to early childhood policies. Myriad options exist for employers to support employees, and see a return on their investment in terms of increased productivity, decreased turnover and absenteeism, and an overall better work environment.Does your business currently offer flextime, child care assistance, or parental leave? Or do you know a Colorado business leader offering these or other components to increase workplace effectiveness? Click here to let us know. This fall, we will highlight Colorado businesses offering these supports, with first-hand stories of how such policies have helped their organization succeed. Click here to email us with examples of local companies supporting the early childhood needs of our state.Sincerely, Travis Gasper Director, EPIC |
CEO Spotlight by Katherine Gold, President GoldBug
As President of GoldBug, the largest distributor of
children's accessory products, I work closely developing products for moms and
employ many mothers who have young children at home. It is staggering to me that Colorado has the fastest growing
poverty rate for Mothers with children under five.
I've witnessed how intrinsic
access to quality child care is to bridging the gap between low income and
affluent children. More often than not a working mother's only childcare option
is basic babysitting whether through a family member, neighbor or at over-crowded
child care centers. Instead of these children being stimulated through
interaction, TV becomes their teacher.
