Greetings!
Where is the warm weather? It is APRIL and I am ready for spring. I am going to try to have a Saturday workout next weekend. I know that you are all ready and excited for those!!! The weather man says rain, but hopefully we can make it. If it is raining, I will cancel, but if not, meet me at the Shirk Center Parking Lot at IWU (the track) at 8 AM Saturday. We will go for a run and then do some bleachers! :) I am excited!!! Get ready for an awesome workout!
I have been working out so hard for our upcoming RKC. I have increased my strength and my endurance over the last couple weeks. I realized that I can snatch the 44 pound kettlebell (the snatch is a movement that brings the KB from the ground to overhead fluidly. Watch this video to see... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLx0GcWi2-I&NR=1 ...I will not be pregnant while doing mine:)
We have to complete a series of exercises and tests over the whole weekend, but the "snatch test" is by far the one that has me the most nervous. I have to snatch the 35 pound KB 100 times in 5 minutes! Chris thinks that I will set a new record for most snatches, but I am focused on passing...then I will go for more if I have time! :)
If you have no idea what I am talking about, Chris and I are going to Minneapolis, MN, April 14-18 to get our Russian Kettlebell Certifications (RKC). We will be working directly with the man who brought the kettlebell over to the United States. If any of you have not been introduced to the kettlebell, it is like a cannon ball with a handle (as seen in the video above). And it is my favorite training tool. It builds functional strength and endurance. It helps you burn a million calories, and it works you entire body. With one kettlebell I can get you a workout like no other!
That being said, I am going to have to cancel boot camp for two days in April. We leave on Thursday, April 14th in the afternoon and don't return until Monday afternoon, so class will be cancelled on Friday, April 15 and Monday, April 18th. The five-day-a-weekers will receive a discount for the missed days. Everyone else will be invited to come on an alternate day those weeks. Since the 6 AM class is going to five days a week this week, please feel free to come on Tuesday or Thursday those weeks to make up for missing Friday and Monday. Sorry for the inconvenience, but this certification will place Chris and I among the few elite athletes that are RKC's. We have been training for this since last fall and are very excited to be going.
Wish us luck, it will be one of the most intense weekends and workouts of our lives! :)
Love you! Emily
P.S. If you have not joined the MyLeanBody Boot Camp on Facebook yet, please do so. Julia and Heidi were so kind to create it for me. :)

The 6 AM class is going to five days per week!
The 6 AM class is going to be held M-F from now on!! This week, I will begin the T/TH 6 AM class. I am so happy to have enough women to need the additional classes! Thank you so much for your referrals. I would not be able to do this without you! And keep them coming! Remember, instead of the normal $25 credit that you usually receive for each referral, I am going to increase that amount to $50 for any referral who signs up for the 6 AM boot camp in April.
That means you only have to have 2 referrals and you will receive a FREE month of boot camp. As always you will also be invited to the referral lunch which takes place the second Thursday of the following month at 11:30 AM. The location changes each month.
Please continue to tell your friends. I still have a few more open spots in the class, but not too many. If anyone wants to get in now, have them visit the website and enter their information! I have met the new ladies who are starting next week, and I want to thank you so much for the awesome words about boot camp! They are all so excited to get started and I am so excited to add them to our group of phenomenal women!
If any other 6 AM ladies want to add more days, please email me about that as well. I would love to have you as many days as possible!! :) If you have already let me know that you want more, you don't have to email again.
If you are on the wait list for the 5:15 AM class and you can make the 6-6:45 AM class work in the mean time, let me know, and as soon as I have a spot in the 5:15 class, I will get you in!
Thank you so much for the support. Thank you so much for wanting to work so hard to be healthy and fit! It feels so good. :) |

Grilled Chicken with Tomato-Avocado Salsa
It has to be time to start grilling out!!! This looks delicious! I love avocado, so anyway I can get it in my dinner, I am happy! Serve this with or on top of a salad, and you will have a wonderful, delicious, healthy meal! Enjoy.
Serves 4
Ingredients:
For the salsa
4 ripe plum tomatoes, chopped or 12 cherry tomatoes, halved 1/2 small red onion, finely chopped 1 jalapeņo chili pepper, seeded and diced 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro 1/4 cup fresh lime juice 1/2 avocado
For the chicken
1/2 cup non-fat, plain yogurt 1/2 small red onion 1/4 cup fresh lime juice 1/4 cup fresh cilantro 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, about 4 to 6 ounces each salt to taste freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
For the salsa: 1. In a small bowl, combine the tomatoes, red onion, pepper and cilantro.
2. Chop the avocado and sprinkle it with 2 tablespoons of lime juice to keep it from browning. Add the avocado and remaining lime juice to the bowl and toss to combine. (This can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.)
For the chicken: 1. In a small food processor, puree the yogurt, red onion, lime juice and cilantro to make a yogurt marinade.
2. Transfer the marinade to a shallow bowl or a plastic bag. Add the chicken and coat well with the marinade. Refrigerate for 1 hour or up to 8 hours.
3. Preheat the grill to medium-high.
4. Remove the chicken from the marinade, discard the remaining marinade and season the chicken with salt and pepper. Grill the chicken on both sides until it is cooked through, about 6 minutes per side.
5. Serve the chicken with tomato-avocado salsa.
Serving Size: 1 chicken breast with salsa
