Quote of the Week
Greetings!

Thank you so much for the great workout this morning!  And I loved the track workout yesterday!  I hope that you all did as well.  :)  Thank you for pushing yourself and for working so hard.  The end of summer, Labor Day, competition has come to an end.  We will have our final weigh in tomorrow to see who the winner is.  I know that you have all been working so hard.  I LOVE to have you so happy and excited to send me your food journals.  I love to hear you talking about being healthy, eating healthy, and making lifestyle changes!  Ladies, you are amazing.  That is what this is all about.  We are not interested in quick fixes.  We are interested in health, wellness, feeling great, and being strong, fit, functional women.

I see changes in each of you every week.  Pushing yourself is the only way to make your body change.  We will start another competition this week as well.  I announced that I am doing another competition on October 23...but it seemed so far away that it was hard for me to really go after it.  Well, now it is only 7 weeks away, so the race is on again!  You will see me pushing myself to the limit, day after day.  That is what you have to do to make your body change.  It may be uncomfortable for a while, but our bodies are meant to be challenged.  You will be amazed at what happens to your body when you step out of your comfort zone.  I know I was for my last show, and I plan to look even better for the next one!

Hold me accountable, just like I hold you accountable.  Make sure I am sticking to my diet.  Make sure I am pushing myself enough in the gym.

I am winning this one for my mom.  She has agreed to be my motivation to push through when I really want to stop.  Those last few...or extra few...minutes on the step mill will be a lot easier when I think about her and how much she wants me to WIN!  If she did not love the having me up there on stage so much, it would be much easier to take a break and wait for till next year to do another one.  But, I will do it for her!  I have never let my mom down in my whole life (I am sure I have, but that look of disappointment she used to give me when I wasn't quite perfect is enough to make me run a few more sprints and push harder than my competition to make her proud!!).  Thanks Mom!  This trophy will be for YOU!  Love you!

P.S.  Just so you all know, momma is twice my age this year, and she is still out pushing herself, sprinting, squatting, and doing push-ups like a 20 year old!  Health and fitness is the fountain of youth!  She is proof.

We have formed a team for the Jingle Bell Run this year.  The race is November 14, 2010 at 1 PM.   Please visit our team page to join.  http://JBRNormal.kintera.org/myleanbodybootcamp.  Please invite your friends and families to join us.  Chris will be running with the girls, too.  I would love to have spouses, fiances, boyfriends, nieces, cousins, moms, etc. all join our team!  Go Team Blaudow!!

Chris and I will be going to Las Vegas on September 23.  The Olympia is taking place that weekend, and we will be attending the expo and the show.  I will be having class Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 6 AM, so those of you who come to the 6 o'clock class, please plan on coming all three days in a row.  It will be fun...I promise!  :)  The Friday class will be cancelled.

I will have a substitute teacher at the 5:15 Thursday, September 23rd class, so the T/TH group will not be affected.  Class will be cancelled on Friday, September 24th.  If you come four days per week, please plan on coming M-TH.  If you come all five days, think of this as a little gift, and sleep in!  :)

Have a great day.  Thank you so much for your hard work!  Make a commitment to yourself and to me during this prep.  If you want to get five pounds off in the next 6 weeks, you can do it.  I am going to do it.  Eat healthy foods.  Make good choices.  Stay active throughout the day.  I can do it.  You can do it.  Let's work together.

Love, Emily
Primal Blueprint

Has anyone checked out the Primal Blueprint yet?  I highly recommend it.  It is an amazing book.  Lots of insight about how we should be eating and why this way is best for our bodies and our health.

Please visit www.marksdailyapple.com to see his blog.  You will find many articles and recipes.  I found this article about knee pain - knee pain that is nutrition related.  Might make you think again about what kinds of foods you are putting in your bodies.  Read about it here:

This gives me a lot of hope about all of the knee complaints that we are having now.  Eat better.  Not only will you have more energy, but you will also have less knee pain (and you will lose fat and feel better!).  There are ways to regrow your cartilage.  Your knees will stop hurting.  And he recommends fish oil...he sounds like me!  :)
Sweet and Salty Primal Trail Mix
I have had more than one request for "trail mix" or other snacks that you can eat throughout the day.  Here is one.  It is from Mark's Daily Apple Blog.  YUM!  Notice that the dried cranberries are sweetened with apple juice - which is honestly not much better than sweetening them with sugar.  Look for fruits that are not sweetened at all.  Apricots, apples, pears, and peaches are usually not sweetened.  Be sure to READ the INGREDIENTS on the package so you know what you are buying and eating.  Please note, you will only be putting in one cup of fruit to 2.5 cups of nuts and seeds.  Dried fruit is a concentrated source of sugar, so be sure you are eating mostly nuts with smaller portions of fruit.  Chop it into small pieces so it goes throughout your "granola."

Ingredients:

1/2 cup each raw walnuts, almonds, and pecans
1/2 cup each raw pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup chopped dried apricots
1/2 cup dried cranberries (sweetened with apple juice)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Roughly chop nuts and mix with seeds, coconut oil, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Spread on a cookie sheet or rimmed baking pan lined with parchment paper, and sprinkle with half of the salt.
Toast in the oven for 2-5 minutes, stirring occasionally to be sure the nuts and seeds are merely toasted, not burned (keep a watchful eye).

Take pan out of the oven and let cool, then add the remaining salt. Toast in oven for another 5 minutes, stirring often (I keep my oven cracked for this). Remove from oven, mix thoroughly with apricots and cranberries and let cool.  You should end up with 12- 14 quarter-cup servings (approximately).

Saturday Workout

We will be meeting Saturday, September 11 at 8 AM at the IWU track for another great Saturday workout.  Gratitude will be the theme this week.  We have a lot to be thankful for.  We live in the greatest country in the world.  We have our health.  We are free to workout and get to choose to eat healthy.  We truly are blessed!

On September 18th we will skip our regular Saturday workout and we will be running a 5K for autism.  Here is the link for more information and to register.

You can register online at the above website.  Thanks Ladies!
Quote of the Week

"One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do."

Some of you have asked about the no regrets shirts.  Krissy has updated them and is placing another order.  The shirts will be between $20 and $25 depending on how many we order.  Here is a picture of what the new shirts will look like.  We will all wear "Team Blaudow" or MyLeanBody Boot Camp t-shirts in the race!

We will be placing the order September 15.  Please contact either one of us for more information or if you have questions.  Sign up sheets are in class.

Thanks and have a great evening!  Love, Emily
