Greetings!
I have the BEST exercise that you can do for your abs.  We all want our stomachs to be a little flatter this time of year.  We are all trying to lose some weight before we have to get our spring clothes out again.  I have the best exercise that you can do to make that all happen.  It is a really big secret, but it works EVERY time.  Do you want to know what it is?

THE PUSH AWAY

One simple movement is all it takes.  Push yourself away from the table.  Fill your dinner plate with appropriate portions.  Eat slowly and enjoy your dinner.  Don't read the mail, watch TV, or talk on the phone.  When you are eating, you are eating and that is it.  Your body does not register the half bag of chips that you ate while watching the Biggest Loser.  Your brain will believe that you are hungry, but you have consumed more than enough calories for the day.  Think about what you are doing when you are eating and how it will affect your body. 

If you have trouble with going back for seconds and then end up full, bloated, and uncomfortable, set the timer on your microwave for 20 minutes.  You are not allowed to go back for more  until that timer goes off.  It takes your brain about 20 minutes to realize that you have eaten and are full.  You will be amazed at how satisfied you are after the 20 minutes are up, and you will have saved yourself 200-300 calories.  That is pretty significant over the course of a few weeks.

I like to make myself a cup of green tea after dinner.  I sip it during the 20 minutes and it takes my mind off of still being "hungry."  Now that the weather is nicer, you could also take a quick walk.  Anything to get  you out of the kitchen and take your mind off food. 


Though for the day:  A flat stomach is made in the kitchen!


What are appropriate portion sizes?

Protein - about the size of your palm or a deck of cards

Starchy Carbohydrates - what can fit into one cupped hand.

Complex Carbs from Fruits and Veggies - what can fit into two hands cupped together.
 
Limit junk food and sugary drinks.  Start eating lean proteins, fruits, and veggies.  Give your body what it needs, and it will respond by giving you the lean, toned, beautiful, full of energy body that you want.
