3 Steps for Custom Bedding Projects
Knowing how much you can commit to your project will dictate what kind of fabric can be used and how elaborate your design can be. For example, real silk makes elegant bedding but comes at a higher price. On the other hand a faux silk can be just as beautiful and fit almost any budget. And while details such as trim, fringe and cording can add personality to your bedding, they can sometimes double the price of your project. A great way to stay within your budget but keep the bedding interesting is to use trim only for small decorative pillows or use fabric-covered cording where possible.

Step 2 - Choose Your Color Palette
Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, an extension of your personality. Before beginning your project, look around your home and in your closet at the colors you are attracted to. Remember that colors have a big impact on your mood. Cool aqua and cream can relax and calm you, while warm red and orange can be intense and invigorate your mood.

Step 3 - Consider Function and Environment
There are two main types of bedding: one is strictly decorative while the other is intended to be functional and lived on. If you have children or animals, stick to heavier weight durable fabrics that can withstand soil and wear well. On the other hand, if you have trouble lifting heavyweight bedding or prefer a cooler environment while sleeping, use lighter weight fabric that can breathe.
The possibilities for fabric and design are endless! Whatever your lifestyle and budget, there is always a stress-free way to fulfill your needs and desires. |
