| In 2006 alone, 1.2 million teenagers in the United States did not graduate on time from high school -- that's 30 percent of the class of 2006. The number increases to an astonishing 50 percent among some minorities. According to a survey by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, 88 percent of those surveyed (ages 16 to 25 in 25 urban, rural and suburban communities nationwide) had passing grades when they dropped out of school, and 91 percent of those dropouts said they knew that graduating was vital to their future success.
According to the Harris Alumni Survey, some 28 percent report they would have dropped out of high school if not for the Club, plus another 51 percent achieved a higher level of education than they thought possible because of attending the Club. |

In honor of Earth Day, 10 Venice High School ROP students collaborated to make a difference in their communities. On Thursday, April 22, ROP students rallied peers to clean up the grounds at Venice High School, beautify the alley behind the Boys & Girls Club of Venice and design recycling bins for placement in the various departments at the Club. All participants made a sustainable impact on the environment.

Arielle grew up in the Boys & Girls Club as her father was the first Executive Director, David C. Mandell, and her mother, Faye I. Mandell, was the director of Counseling. She became a club member and enjoyed participating with other club members in programs and activities. The same passion and commitment that her parents held for the club has been passed on to Arielle in her work with disadvantaged youth and their families.
