TWO TUNICS QUARTERLY REPORT: Jan-March 2010

Renewed Commitments to Support Feeding of Children

As 2010 began, we were pleased to still have our service providers/donors still committing to continue providing for the community projects we support. Having done on site visits to check on progress as far as the feeding is concerned, Food for Africa (F4A) and Feed the Babies (FTB) committed to continue providing Amandla Plus nutritious porridge to all the 22 projects which have been supported through Two Tunics (TT) since 2008.

FTB, based in Durban committed to take on 5 more, so is now supporting a total of 12 projects with 384 of the 1000 orphans & vulnerable children (OVC's).  F4A UK continues to support the remaining 10 projects which constitute about 616 OVC's. Both these organizations provide nutritious porridge for the children. In addition FTB has started providing a soya-mix lunch meal to 5 projects. F4A has also started providing lunch meal to some of its projects as well.

The parents/guardians of the children in our crèches/projects are very grateful for this nutritious feeding. Reports of improved health-skin problems, sores etc, improved intellect, and children getting more active are some of the benefits of feeding children this porridge/lunch meal.

As we deliver this food and other donated items like toys, clothing etc. the crèche/feeding project managers also wonder at God's provision for their community projects.

Visits-Highlights

1. In February this year aSwedish couple together with a local friend visited some of our community projects. One of our project partners Jesus' Voice Kingdom Ministries (JVKM)'s manager, Pastor Amos Cele, also took them to visit some of the neediest families around Murchison & Bhobhoyi. This resulted in a good relationship between the two parties, and follow-up visits.

2. From the 2nd-24 March, the TT directors Dr Mike & Robin Nash came back from America for a visit.

       2a. Accomplishments during Mike & Robin's visit

         - TT board and staff were encouraged by God's answer to prayer as a vehicle was bought for Two Tunics.

         - A mini -dedication of the church building at Jesus Christ Cares Feeding Ministry, one of the TT supported /partner project in Eastern Cape.

       - A new approach of developing effective partnerships with some of TT-supported community projects was launched. The emphasis is to avoid unhealthy dependencies by beneficiaries, also for TT to avoid providing immediate relief when, actually, development is necessary.

The outcome was that meetings with 9 identified TT community project partners were held. The remaining 13/22 TT projects still continue to get support as it continues to be available e.g. porridge, lunch meal, toys, clothing etc. The focus of TT will however be on assisting the development of the 9 projects which were identified as TT partners.

3. The highlight was the visit by Grace Church from America to some of our projects. JVKM also took them to visit some of the neediest families around Murchison and Bhobhoyi. The American groups were so touched by the conditions under which the people live.

During all of these visits, the visitors and our staff shared the love of God with the community people and also prayed for them.

Areas: Gamalakhe, Bhobhoyi, Murchison, Kwa Nzimakhwe, Gcilima, & Bhomela

2. Orphan Project

TT keeps a database of about 27 Primary school going orphaned children (6-17years). 3 of these orphans are supported by Shiloh Church as from October 2009, continuously on a monthly basis. The support for the remaining 24 was once-off school year support from both local and international donors. Support included school uniforms, school -related fees, food and other needs.

Some of the school uniforms for these orphans were delivered to them, at their Primary schools in Bhobhoyi.

3. Home Based Care

TT assists some of its partners who are involved with this program. JVKM &Sunnyside Crèche's Siyanakekela support group are some of the partners involved with HBC.
