Mike & Robin's Mission Update

April 2010
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. Luke 4:18-19

South Africa Trip
We spent a busy 3 weeks in South Africa in March. It was a hard and stressful trip in many ways but also very successful and blessed. It was difficult being back as temporary visitors after living there for 4 years. Living in a small flat was difficult and we missed having our house to retreat to after a hard day. But it was so good to see our South African friends again and catch up on their lives and work.

Our Two Tunics staff in South Africa are doing a great job of managing the day to day operations. We are having a big impact on the lives of children in the AIDS and poverty affected communities we serve. Over 900 children are now receiving consistent nutritional support. It was so humbling and encouraging to meet with all our key community based project partners. These people are stars and we were convinced again that we are partnering with the right people.

Please go to our South Africa Trip March 2010 report on our website to see some of the trip highlights, photos and video.

There have been many additional updates to our "Project" pages  on our website as well so check it out.

Whitworth University "Missions in Africa" Conference
On April 24, 2010, we will be presenting a workshop on "AIDS & Orphans: Shelter in the Storm" at Whitworth University in Spokane WA. Whitworth will be hosting a Missions in Africa conference on that day. We will also participate in the closing panel discussion. Please pray for us as we prepare and then as we present on April 24th. We want to be able to communicate clearly what we believe is God's heart on this issue as well as what the way is that He would have his church respond. God wants His church to be effective (including cost effective), strategic and empowering as we spread the whole gospel (see Luke 4:18-19 above) through worldwide missions.

Click on the link above or at the end of this email for more information on the conference as well as information on how to register. If you have an opportunity to be in the Spokane area on that day we would love to see you there.

Home Assignment
With our return from our South Africa trip we remain on home assignment for Two Tunics for the remainder of this year. We continue to seek God regarding our role with Two Tunics for the longer term - possibly returning for another extended assignment in South Africa versus remaining in the US with short term trips to South Africa to lead and manage the ongoing ministry operations there. We are working closely with our board on strategic planning for Two Tunics and on many organizational strengthening and capacity building issues for our organization here. Please continue to pray for us and for Two Tunics as we wait on the Lord and trust him for the future of the ministry.
