Sunday, September 5th, was the last of the pool games for the Berkshire Red Sox 18-U team in the Pagoda Classic. Hosted on a beautiful fall weather morning, the 10:00 game against the SAYO Grey's was an exciting ball game rich with strong defensive and offensive plays.
The Grey's, a team from New York, were eager to steal bases, while the Red Sox were content with making the action happen at the plate and on the field. Near the end of the game, the Red Sox caught on and managed a final out by a runner attempting to steal second base, in a well played chase.
After a pitching relief in the fourth inning, the Red Sox managed to keep the Grey's from scoring anymore runs, though already trailing 2-4. However, they were unable to make up for the two runs earned by the Grey's in the bottom of the third. There would be no runs for either team from the fifth inning on.
The Red Sox would go on to lose this challenge, but the game was by no means a hand out. Following the morning game, the Red Sox would step on the field again to face the NEPA Surge, in a high scoring 14-10 final. This win would lead the Red Sox into the Quarterfinals, which took place the following Labor Day.
The Red Sox would move onto the Semifinals after an uplifting win against Warminster of the All Star Baseball Academy in the Quarterfinal game. Unfortunately, they were unable to advance onto the Championship game, as they were stopped short by Brooklawn, the finalists and champions of the Fall 2010 Pagoda Classic Tournament.
Final Score: SAYO (4) - Berkshire Red Sox (2)
Below are the results to the Pagoda Classic for each division. Congratulations to this year's champions and best of luck to each team in the Fall 2010 season!
