100:4.5 If you could only fathom the motives of your associates, how much better you would understand them. If you could only know your fellows, you would eventually fall in love with them.
102:1.1 It is literally true, " Human things must be known in order to be loved, but divine things must be loved in order to be known. "
These quotes remind me of theories that sort us by personality types. The Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator and the Enneagram attempt to help us understand how people with innately different motivations, talents, strengths and weaknesses can learn to accept and appreciate each other.
Having differing personality types is like having operating systems preloaded with software designed to produce different default behavior. When we deal with people who share the same software, it's pretty easy to get along with them, due to common similarities. For spiritual evolution, however, we need to learn how to work with people with valid motivations different than ours. This work includes an effort to understand others who differ from us, as well as examining our own behaviors to see if our usual responses fall short of being the most favorable responses.
If God had seen fit to create us all identically, we wouldn't have to learn to cooperate with people whose world views are radically different than ours. But we have only to imagine how music that springs from any one instrument pales in comparison with the richness of a symphony orchestra, to guess why God designed us with differing gifts.
How much time do we spend getting to know people, really listening to understand them so we can learn to fall in love with them?

- The Community Newsletter is now being translated into Spanish. Flor Robles has been translating the English version and sending it to a growing number or Spanish readers through out the world.
- Agustin Arellano gives us this report regarding book placement in the state of Yucatan, Mexico. In the city of Merida local readers have started a project to place El Libro de Urantia in all the public libraries. With the assistance of the Director of the Central Library, 90 books donated by The Fellowship have been already been placed.The goal is to place 156 books throughout the region.There is a follow-up plan to support the new study groups that these placements will generate. The state of Aguacalientes will be the focus of the next book placement project.

A major part of resurrecting Jesus from "the tomb of traditional theology" requires transplanting the story of his life and teachings from an Old Testament context into one reflecting the vastly increased insights derived from contemporary studies in history, archaeology, cultural anthropology and epochal revelation.
The Joshua ben Joseph project addresses this challenge directly; we have come into contact with a remarkable set of resources.
All that is needed is sufficient financial support to enable us to claim these valuable resources for the work of the revelation!

Political Perception and Expression for a Religionist

The issue of political perception and expression for a religionist is a serious one because of the potential for intermingling the divine and human spheres. It is not my intent to take sides on any current political controversies per se, but rather to comment on how the long view might apply to any political controversy. I would like to turn to Abraham Lincoln and to the concept of spiritual wisdom.
I have read and re-read thousands of pages of Lincoln's words, spoken and written, all his known statements, except for many of his narrowly construed legal briefs. I do not recall he ever once suggested that God was on the side of the north. The closest he may have come was his point that it seemed strange to him for people to claim the support of a just God while they took bread, produced by the sweat of other men, without paying them for it. But then he added we should not judge others, in order not to be judged ourselves. You might find it interesting to read a short piece he wrote around September, 1862, when the outcome of the civil war was in doubt. The evidence suggests that it was written privately and not for publication.
"The will of God prevails. In great contests each party claims to act in accordance with the will of God. Both may be, and one must be wrong. God can not be for, and against the same thing at the same time. In the present civil war it is quite possible that God's purpose is something different from the purpose of either party--and yet the human instrumentalities, working just as they do, are of the best adaptation to effect His purpose. I am almost ready to say this is probably true--that God wills this contest, and wills that it shall not end yet. By his mere quiet power, on the minds of the now contestants, He could have either saved or destroyed the Union without a human contest. Yet the contest began. And having begun He could give the final victory to either side any day. Yet the contest proceeds." (ed., Don E. Fehrenbacher; Lincoln: Speeches and Writings, 1859-1865; Library of America, NY:NY, 1989; p.359)
I believe Lincoln's musing on the divine will highlights a distinction critical for all coreligionists: we should humbly separate the human perception of truth (God's will) with divine truth itself. It also seems to me that coreligionists ought to make this distinction, as Lincoln did, when expressing our (sincere) understanding of God's will. I believe the failure to make these distinctions are major errors among coreligionists.
To take this point a bit further: spiritual wisdom requires that we seek to discern the origin, nature and destiny of any phase of reality in order to properly understand any episode of human existence. Their successful comprehension should provide a long view of human political behavior. If that proves to be case, then such an individual or group would at least mute any claim of divine favoritism in any form. The Universal Father sees all of us as His children, and such a perspective, must necessarily view human vicissitudes in a very different light, as Lincoln suggests, than the mortal vantage point.
Furthermore, all of the Universal Father's thoughts, words and actions are valid eternally, absolutely and infinitely. Fortunately, we have help, among others, from the Seven Master Spirits and the Supreme to assist us in working out the Father's cosmic scheme of things in time and space.
Indeed, God desires cosmic morality to prevail. Somehow this must be squared with human evolutionary progressive civilization. But to assert a claim that God favors one against the other is questionable on the face of it -- notwithstanding how tempting it is for many to do so. And we are cautioned to avoid exaggerating a genuine divine leading, including prophecy, meant for an individual or a group. Actual prophetic leadings can become overwrought if not perceived with intelligent humility.
Given the power of the teachings in The Urantia Book, it behooves those devoted to its dissemination to serve with great care and respect. I think the primary danger lies in confusing self-importance with work-importance, especially when the confusion eventuates into some form of politics.

Andrea Barnes again! The New Volunteer Coordinator
 The Urantia Book Fellowship recently hired Ms. Andrea Barnes to serve with us as our new Volunteer Coordinator. You may remember from our last newsletter that Andrea was also just elected as a member of the Fellowship's General Council. She likes to point out that when you put your hand up to serve the angels won't waste any time in putting you to work. Andrea has a unique skill set that makes her well suited for this position, including 15 years as a successful web designer and nearly 20 years in management and marketing. She is a lively, engaging and dynamic people person and we are confident that she will do a fantastic job for us! Andrea currently lives in the San Diego area and has been a reader for 33 years. Most of those years have been spent hosting or attending study groups. She started the original Urantia phone message project in the early 90s and is an accomplished Toastmaster who regularly does effective outreach with The Urantia Book. She is currently active in three Fellowship committees and was part of the Cosmic Road Show tour, that evangelized the Urantia Book and inspired readers from Montreal to Chicago last summer. Andrea lists the following as her objectives: "To always to do the Father's will. To be of the most service possible to the Fifth Epochal Revelation and my fellows. To find a job that allows me to travel, organize others for enhanced service, and live up to my highest potential using my skills in communication, organization, and technology." The Heart of the Mountains Retreat

The Urantia Book Fellowship -- founded in 1955 as Urantia Brotherhood -- is an association of individuals, families, and various groups inspired by the teachings of The Urantia Book. The Urantia Book Fellowship supports the study and dissemination of The Urantia Book worldwide and is committed to the ideal of spiritual unity, which embraces individual diversity, as embodied in the teachings of The Urantia Book.
Reader Services and organizational business are managed by the General Council consisting of 36 members elected from the readership.
