A Word from the President - December 2009

Michele KlimeshRejoice in the tender mercy of our God because the dayspring from on high has now visited us  To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death; To guide our feet into ways of peace. 122:9.5

Ten readers from North America are traveling to Australia this month to staff the Urantia Book booth at the Parliament of the World's Religions. Francyl and Marvin Gawryn, Jo Anne Buckner, Larry Geis, Paula Thompson, Cristina Seaborn, Gard Jameson, Buck and Arlene Weimer, Sheila Lund, and Meredith Tenney will be joining Kathleen Swadling and her crew in Melbourne for this international event. The Fellowship is pleased to co-sponsor of the Parliament outreach effort with our friends from down under, and we wish these Fellowship travelers a safe, productive journey.

The holidays are upon us! I believe that Jesus was born in August, but I still enjoy watching the local community celebrate his birth in December. Even though I know that many Christmas rituals spring from earlier pagan rites, I still love the lights and the hymns and the evergreens. As we pass through the holiday season, I pray that we all remain aware of the true gifts that Michael's incarnation brought to our world, our homes, and our heart.

Wishing you every blessing,

Michelle Klimesh
President

What is New on the Fellowship Website

Thanks to Mark Erickson, who did the recording, and to the Education Committee for their work to make the Summer Seminar possible, there are selected programs from the 2009 Summer Study Seminar are available on the website at http://urantiabook.org/audio/SSS09/
Some remarkable materials recently have been added to the website -- go to
http://urantiabook.org/whatsnew.htm to find their links.
  • "The Words of Christ" by Pato Banton sets a new benchmark for inspired Urantian art;
  • the Perfecting Horizons talks by Dr. Chris Halvorson are most insightful.  The listed talks from Paper 103 are particularly insightful and  useful.
  • Review by L. Dan Massey of a "call for papers" issued by the American Academy of Religion to its membership in the mid-1980s for comments about The Urantia Book.

God Consciousness & Cosmic Morality
Summer Study Session July 21-26, 2010

"The temporal relation of man to the Supreme is the foundation for cosmic morality, the universal sensitivity to, and acceptance of, duty. This is a morality which transcends the temporal sense of relative right and wrong; it is a morality directly predicated on the self-conscious creature's appreciation of experiential obligation to experiential Deity." (Paper 117 4:8)

Education 5

This summer, we will examine the meaning of cosmic morality and how it relates to the way we live the teachings of The Urantia Book today. Please hold July 21-26, 2010 for this exalted purpose. Beyond attending, The Education Committee of The Urantia Book Fellowship invites you to consider serving as a plenary speaker, workshop/seminar facilitator, pre-conference activities volunteer, entertainer, etc.

University

The even will be held in a new location for The Fellowship. Techny Towers, a conference and retreat center, is located on Chicago's North shore.  An early 20th century seminary for the Society of the Divine Word, it is  today an ecumenical center fostering creativity and strategic thinking. The Education Committee spent a weekend there in October 2009 and found the facilities to be lovely, peaceful and perfectly suitable to our purposes. To learn more about the site, please visit www.Technytowers.org.
