JULY ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Tug Mathisen

Tug Mathisen painting

Tug Mathisen is a native Charlestonian who enjoys sharing his love of the Lowcountry with others throughout his artwork. He is a member of the South Carolina Watercolor Society and Charleston Artists Guild. At an early age Tug began drawing, and continues to participate in watercolor classes and workshops. Charleston, as seen through Tug's eyes, turns out to be a behind-the-scenes look at architecture and ironwork. His work captures unique vignettes of the City and the Lowcountry.

ART CLASSES WITH OUR GALLERY ARTISTS

Helen Beacham Wildflowers

Teaching what she knows!

On August 15, 16 and 17, Helen K. Beacham will teach her unique way of painting watercolors on translucent Yupo paper at a workshop being held on the Isle of Palms.  Beginners and Intermediate students will enjoy this class.

Yupo is a synthetic material that is specially treated to accept watercolor, whereas plastics typically are known for repelling water.  It is made in Japan but is gaining in popularity in the United States due to some artists promoting its finer qualities.

Students will learn how Helen paints on both sides of the translucent paper, which allows her to gain subtle, emotional transitions of color in her sought after pieces.

For more information about this workshop or to see more examples of her work, please visit www.helenKbeacham.com or call Helen at 843-871-5637.
