Summer Fishing Report
This past June we were honored to have Ken Disher and his family of four down to SDP for a few days of touring and fishing. Ken and his two young sons are pretty well versed in the fishing of freshwater species in Northern Wisconsin and had no trouble making the transfer to the large, aggressive saltwater species endemic to the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica. Despite some unseasonably rough seas (the ocean is usually flat here), the fishing was as consistent and good as ever. We caught a good amount of reef fish each and every day including some amberjack pushing nearly 100 lbs. We also got into a hot roosterfish bite on the last afternoon out with the entire boat catching 7 in under an hour on jigs and poppers.
July saw the visit of Jay and Jill Klinghorn who were visiting SDP for a week to shoot our new promotional video. Jay hadn't done a ton of fishing in his life before this visit to SDP, but after hooking a 20 lb. cubera snapper on his very first drop with a butterfly jig he was officially hooked. A week after Jay and Jill's visit, two college buddies of mine - Adam and Shawn - came down for a guys week of beaches, beer, and fishing. Neither Adam nor Shawn were super experienced in saltwater fishing, but they caught the hang of it rather quickly and actually ended up outfishing both myself and our captain Steve on our last day out. Catches of note were some really nice amberjack, roosterfish, and cubera snapper. |
