The conditions last week were exceptional. There are many things that I have to take into account when closing the school and it is not done without much thought, deliberation and regret.

The safety of the pupils and staff is my paramount concern. Ratios of staff to pupils have to be adhered to by law. I also have to consider whether pupils can be safely collected at the end of the school day. St Winifred's does not have the facilities to accommodated pupils in the eventuality of parents not being able to collect them.

Winn Road has been dangerous for both pedestrians and vehicles, making access to the school difficult. Miss Oakley and I have been in school. Teachers have also been able to work at home on planning and other curriculum documentation.

I have every intention of opening the school every day if it is at all possible. I know closure is not ideal for working parents. Hopefully, this situation will not arise too often!

Thank you for bearing with us.

Medicines in School
medicineThe Administering Medication Policy has been updated.

A new Medication Administration Record (MAR) has been designed for parents to use to enable us to administer any form of prescribed or over the counter medication, including throat sweets.

Pupils can administer their own medication where appropriate, but a self administration form must be completed by parents and returned to school before we can allow this.

Please could you ensure that this form is brought into the office with the medication that you wish your child to receive. Without this signed and completed form, medication cannot be administered.
Puffin book club
Puffin Bookclub logoPuffin Book Club Leaflets will be coming home this week.

Anyone wishing to place an order could you please return the order form and remittance by Monday 18th January.
Wrapping up in the playground and for games lessons
Please could all pupils have their jumpers, blazers and coats at school for playtimes and tracksuits for games activities as the weather has started to turn wintery now.

It is particularly cold in the playground at present so pupils are encouraged to wear extra layers (track suit tops) under their blazers and coats.

Royal blue hats, gloves and scarves are available from Stevensons:
