Host a Virtual Conference
After meeting with the founders of HyperFair recently, I left inspired by their concept: no transportation costs, minimal energy
expenditure, avatars, networking
assistants, electronic business card exchanges, webinars, Skype calls and more. The event can be a live event within a particular timeframe or pre-recorded. Events may also be positioned as the featured event or a pre-event in tandem with a live conference.
What's an Unconference?
An Unconference is more about the interaction amongst the participants and the mingling of group interests vs featuring industry speakers.
 | | Transportation Camp San Francisco |
OpenPlans.org recently hosted TransportationCamp East and West as a platform to spark creativity, mind share & new initiatives, with a focus on how to leverage technology to improve transportation and better serve the community (think NextBus as one example). As shown on the photo on the right, participants post their proposed session topics and then guests sign up on the spot thereafter. Key outcomes from the Unconferences were the formation of new coalitions and meet ups. Leverage LinkedIn

Host an Online Auction Wherever Mother Nature and Father Earth are fighting it out creating natural disasters, the American Red Cross is there to provide relief to all as seen most recently in Japan and Haiti. Each year, in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 disasters turn to neighbors familiar and new-the more than half a million volunteers and 35,000 employees of the Red Cross. Through nearly 700 locally-supported chapters, more than 15 million people gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and around the world.
The Red Cross has set up the Bidding for Good online auction to complement their annual Red Cross Gala on April 16th. Gala tickets and auction items are still available, but for just a little while longer. |
