Greetings!

Are you getting enough of a contact high this Holiday Season?  That secret rush that comes from smelling the Specialty's Bakery fans as you make your way to BART, "playing" Santa, realizing you bought the first holiday gift for yourself, or out-timing your neighbor on the elliptical machine.

If you're like me, you just go for the networking and business development high.  You know the one:  you get it every time you introduce two people and see the look of love in their eyes.  The look of love of people, love from the connection, love of business, that energetic charge that comes from seeing what's lovable and bringing that together for other people.

Find the love this holiday season, spending time with your family, friends and colleagues, and carry that positive energy into the New Year.  Here are a few suggestions of how to find the love and generate a little bit of that secret contact high for yourself.

Love to you all and Happy Holidays!

Get Traction with your Business by Implementing a Grassroots Effort

As Americans are tightening their purse strings, social media is shifting who drives our news, and unfortunate scandals have created a witch-hunt frenzy from society; companies, employees and executives are scared of the stigma and backlash from making big financial decisions.  It could be their job next on the chopping block.

So what's working?  Grassroots efforts bring power to the people AND contribute to your bottom line.  Here are a few examples...
  • Events:  California Academy of Sciences - Nightlife Event:
"Every Thursday, the Academy is transformed into a lively venue filled with music, provocative science, mingling and cocktails for thousands of visitors 21 and up."  You do the math on $10/head times 2-3 thousand guests, four times a month, plus additional revenues from food and beverage sales. It's also a brilliant guest experience...everyone wins!  Smart marketing all the way around.
  • Sponsorship Opportunities Focused on Employee Participation :  San Francisco Film Society
In speaking with the SFFS's sponsorship and development team they noticed that companies were looking to move away from opportunities that would be "deemed excessive" for upper management and shift their focus on broader employee participation.   They first saw this as a trend with Silicon Valley Tech companies and have since looked at ways to further incorporate volunteerism, employee discounts, memberships and/or increase the # of tickets provided to meet the needs of their corporate sponsors.
  • Political Fundraising:  Reaching the Masses
I attended a political event earlier this year in which the candidate said when he decided to run for office he had set a campaign goal of securing 100 checks for $10,000 and instead ended up with 10,000 checks for $100.  It's taking a movement and the masses to drive critical mass.
  • Entrepreneurialism:  Power to the People:  The Entrepreneurs Organization
In working on a sponsorship engagement with the Entrepreneurs' Organization this year, I was reminded of why I love working with entrepreneurs.  There's not same rules, barriers, blame or lack of empowerment.  It's roll up your sleeves and make it happen and if it's not happening then find a way to make it happen and if you can't find a way to make it happen find out who can and just get it done.  Cut the politics, cut the bureaucracy, cut the limitations and just do it.

For the Love of Politics and Community Engagement:

Between the political elections for Governor, Attorney General, Senate and Congress, 2010 is a multi-play year.  We've already seen a shift as candidates begin to jockey for the races.  Professionals VIP has always had a primary focus on diversity and civic engagement.  As we move into a big year politically, engage in the awareness, exposure and education that Professionals VIP is here to offer.
