Dear Friend,

Please take a few moments to enjoy this Fall edition of our newsletter.  Featured this edition, is a trip made by Kellie Riper, EChO board member, to our school in Kaifeng.  The photos included in this edition, and in editions to come, are EChO students in the Kaifeng school.  Their precious faces remind us why we pursue this good work.  It is our goal to provide skills and build a culture of hope for these otherwise hopeless little ones.

Kaifeng School Visit

Kellie Riper was able to go and visit, share and touch our students in the flesh this past summer at our Kaifeng EChO School.  It was an incredible time of bonding and learning how we have been able to impact the lives of these young children.

Please find a letter from Kellie below with a specific update on her trip.

Looking Sharp in New Uniforms

In China it is very important that students wear uniforms when they are attending school.  One of the wonderful things that Kellie was able to do was to find some fantastic looking uniforms and was able to deliver them to our students.
Letter from Kellie's trip to Kaifeng

It is to my great pleasure and excitement to report that Echo's recent trip to China was a success.  My stepfather and I ventured to Kaifeng in June to check on the progress of the school. When we arrived at the school we were cheerfully greeted by the orphanage director, Mr. Wang, all his staff, and the teachers.  We were then led on a tour through the orphanage.  I can assure you that the facilities in which the children live in are cheerful, and clean.  It is quite evident that they are well taken care of, and loved.  Finally, we were taken to see the school.  I have to admit that I was very nervous to meet all the children.  I was not really sure what to expect when I walked through the front doors of the school.  We were greeted with huge smiles, and applause.  It was an absolutely empowering moment to see all of our hard work, and contributions brought to life.  The kids began to sing a song in Chinese.  We were told the tune was called "I Love China."  At this point, tears started to roll down my face.  I think it was the first real time it hit me how much of an impact we are making on these beautiful children's lives.

new desks for school

During our trip we assessed the needs of the school and tried to accommodate them.  One major thing we noticed was that all the kids

were cramped around two small tables.  That night, we purchased five student desks for the school.  This allowed for the older children to have their own study space.  As a student, I know how important that is!  We also purchased some toys, and craft supplies to help the students with hand motor coordination.  Also on a fun note, we provided the students with school uniforms.  They are very classy red and while striped polo shirts, with an ironed on EChO logo.  The children look very sharp, unified, and ready to learn in their new clothes.

Lastly, I would like to tell you the story of a little girl whom, one year ago, was unable to walk.  Thanks to therapy, and love she has received through the school, and from her teachers she is now able to stand and walk on her own.  If it were not for our work in China, this little girl would probably have never learned to walk.  I hope this story inspires you, as much as it did me.  It is because of the continued support from our wonderful student sponsors that a success story like this is possible.  Together we are making an enormous difference in the lives of these orphans.  From the bottom of my heart, I thank you, the children thank you, and the whole EChO family thanks you for your compassion and support.

With Love,

Kellie Riper
