"I was so grateful for the power of what [WWFC] has created...especially for my daughter. It's amazing how she opened up about who she is as a person." ~ Parent of a young woman

Special True Body Project Performance - November 18!

Please join us on November 18, 7pm at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center for an inspiring performance of the True Body Project.

This fall, Women Writing for (a) Change and the True Body Project partnered to offer a 5-week series to teen girls combining the best of both organizations.  The teens composed a short performance work of their writing featuring two writing prompts contemplating The Girl and The Goddess within them.

The piece will be performed along with a reprise a their CEA-nominated performance of "Walk in our Shoes." Writing to the prompt, "Unless you have walked in my shoes, you cannot know ..." Individuals from Over the Rhine to Cambodia were compelled to speak the truth about their own lives. This performance brings life to the heartbreak, joy, and hopefulness of the human spirit in a special, one night only performance.

3711 Clifton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH, 45220, (513) 497-2860,
www.cliftonculturalarts.org. Tickets to this event will be $12, available at the door.

Writing Prompt

November - Billy Collins

After three days of steady rain -
over two inches said the radio -
I follow the example of monks
who write by a window, sunlight on the page.

Five times this morning,

I loaded a wheelbarrow with wood
and steered it down the hill to the house,
and later I will cut down the dead garden

with a clippers and haul the soft pulp

to a grave in the woods,
but now there is only
my sunny page which is like a poem
I am covering with another poem

and the dog asleep on the tiles,

her head in her paws,
her hind legs played out like a frog.

How foolish it is to long for childhood,
to want to run in circles in the yard again,
arms outstretched,
pretending to be an airplane.

How senseless to dread whatever lies before us

when, night and day, the boats,
strong as horses in the wind,
come and go,

bringing in the tiny infants

and carrying away the bodies of the dead.

Writing Suggestion

What is stirring in your this November -- memories or hopes for the future?  Or both?

This time of year brings holidays and sometimes a whole lot of stress.  Give yourself a gift - spend 10 minutes a day quiet with your journal to keep yourself centered.  You are worth it!
