Play Me I'm
Yours Draws Neighbors to Our
Corner
| |
Jayla and
Darria, pictured above, are deep in concentration on a warm August morning.
We're making music this summer at Women Writing for a
Change, as one of the official sites of Play
Me I'm Yours. The piano - painted by
girls and teens from WWFC's Young Women's Summer Writing Camps - is a
neighborhood attraction, drawing young and old, from seasoned musician to
beginner.
Play Me I'm Yours
is a public art installation created by Luke Jerram and sponsored by Cincinnati
Public Radio in celebration of a combined 150 years of broadcasting on WGUC,
WVXU and WMUB. By promoting a sense of community through
music and art, Play Me, I'm Yours celebrates public radio's service to
the community.
Visit http://www.streetpianos.com/cincinnati2010/ to learn more about piano locations, photos, and maps. And please visit our piano in Silverton, at
the corner of Montgomery and Plainfield Road.
Take a photo, tell a story, and post it at the website listed
above. For more about WWFC, visit www.womenwriting.org.

What other participants sayThank you for nurturing my creative self.
What I appreciate most is that I feel I belong
and my talents are valued here.
I have been touched deeply by the words and
hearts shared so courageously.
How much better I feel every time I come to
class.
The age difference in the group feels like a
real blessing.
I love hearing personal life stories shared in
the safety of this space together.
The small group always leaves me with a sense of
possibility.
It's always good to reconnect with my writing
self.
I feel like part of a wonderful web.
I feel a little guilty for receiving so much
from this group.
Each week I feel fuller and fuller and look
forward to the day I can give back! |

NEW PROGRAM: WWFC Presents ....Stages of a Woman's Life Series As
part of our expanded offerings this fall, we are offering a series of one
evening sessions that focus on a stage many women may pass through or be
affected by at some point in our lives. This
is the stuff of women's lives and we're gathering together to inspire each
other; to get direction and encouragement; and to face and embrace the changes
we're being called to make as we navigate the various stages.
Each
session is independent of the other and will feature...opportunity for meaningful
exploration and conversation of the topic; interactive participation among the
presenters and participants using writing, small group sharing and/or group
activities.
Reserving
a seat by RSVP is recommended so we can be prepared for you-513-272-1171
Cost
per session is $15 payable at the door (a portion of proceeds is used to fund
WWFC Outreach Initiatives)
Those
who RSVP will be eligible for a drawing for a free series session or discount
on future events!
The Sessions include:
Discovering Your Act Three:
You're in a period of significant
personal transition. Your kids are grown or growing, they don't need
you as much, and your identity - first as a professional, and then as a
mother - is in flux. You're questioning what the next stage of your
life will look like.
Thursday,
September 23 9:30- 11:30 AM
Surviving and Even Thriving with Breast Cancer:
We'll be celebrating
breast cancer awareness month by hearing the stories of two women who have not

thrived throughout the experience by writing about their journey. Tuesday, October 19,

through Thoughtful Caregiving Becoming

Writing Prompt Summer in a Small Town by Linda Gregg
When the men leave me, they leave me in a beautiful place. It is always late summer. When I think of them now, I think of the place. And being happy alone afterwards. This time it's Clinton, New York. I swim in the public pool at six when the other people have gone home. The sky is gray, the air is hot. I walk back across the mown lawn loving the smell and the houses so completely it leaves my heart empty.
Ahhh... summer is winding down. Take 10 minutes to write about your favorite summer memories -- this summer or not. Hate summer? That's a great topic too!
If you'd like to share your writing with us on Facebook, we'd love to see it! Click the link to the left. Remember that Fall classes begin soon, so sign up today! |
