Greetings, from the staff of Investigations!
This edition of our newsletter is devoted to answering questions about Investigations and the Common Core State Standards. We hope the resources presented will inform your work as you and your colleagues think about how best to use the transitional materials, Investigations and the Common Core State Standards, to support and extend the teaching and learning of mathematics in your classrooms and schools.
The arrival of this edition of our newsletter corresponds to the end of another school year. We hope that each of you finds ways to rejuvenate yourself professionally and personally during the summer months.

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
It has been a year since the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics were published by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers. "These Standards define what students should understand and be able to do in their study of mathematics." (CCSSM, p. 4.)
The authors of Investigations have been studying the standards and determining which standards are addressed, and which are not (or are not fully) addressed. The Curriculum and the CCSS describes and shares the outcomes of this work, including: detailed correlations, an essay about the Mathematical Practices, information about a new CCSS-related Investigations product (also see below), and information about the content to be added and omitted in order to meet the Standards.
Learn more: FAQs about Investigations and the CCSS. FAQs about the CCSS for Mathematics.
The Investigations authors have developed materials to support teachers and schools that plan to implement the CCSS. This new product, Investigations and the Common Core State Standards, is designed for use in conjunction with the curriculum units (copyright 2008 or later) at each grade level, K-5, and will be available from Pearson for use this fall.
