The ACA's dirty little secret (people actually like it)
Despite national polls showing a virtual split in attitudes toward the Affordable Care Act (ACA), when people know what is actually in the new health law, favorability increases dramatically. Below are results from various polls conducted by Anzalone-Liszt Research between April and September of this year, prior to recent increased ACA publicity. The table below shows that new insurance reforms are supported by over two-thirds of the electorate.
There are many trying to dismantle these hard-fought protections. Voters who want to keep the ACA and make it better are urged to talk to their family, friends, neighbors and associates to make sure they are aware that these protections are endangered, and should vote on November 2 to support candidates that support the ACA.

Civil Rights icons endorse Amendments 5 & 6
Two civil rights icons have joined the Florida NAACP and other African American leaders in the fight to pass Fair Districts Amendments 5 and 6. The Reverend Joseph Lowery, Co-founder with Rev. Martin Luther King of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and Julian Bond, Chairman Emeritus of the NAACP, are urging Florida voters to vote YES on these amendments. They both agree that 5 and 6 will strengthen protections for minority voters and permanently secure constitutional voting rights for all Floridians, while stopping politicians from drawing districts to favor themselves. |
Imagine Miami voter forum a success!
We at HSC would like to thank everyone who came out this past Friday to the Imagine Miami Voter Education and Issues Forum. A special thanks to keynote speakers: Karen Aronowitz, President of United Teachers of Dade, Jeanne Baker, former President of Florida ACLU, Terry Coble, President of League of Women Voters of Miami-Dade County, and Karen Woodall, Executive Director of the Florida Center for Fiscal and Economic Policy. These speakers led a riveting and informative discussion on the November 2 ballot initiatives. We would also like to thank our sponsors, The Children's Trust and Florida ACLU, for their support and dedication to ensuring all attendees were able to deepen their understanding of ballot initiatives and network with other change-makers in the community. |
