Writing Tip of the Month
writing tip keyboard

Ugh. Writer's block. We all have ways we deal with it. Lately it seems that I suffer from writer's block every time I am approaching a love scene. Not sure why and I'm not going to stop and analyze that one. (LOL) Maybe it's because for me, love scenes are very intense. They take a lot of energy for me to write. There is always a lot of emotion to express and I want to make sure I am getting it right. Have to keep the characters happy, right? So, when I get "blocked" at the love scene, here is what I do. Channel it. Well, that's what I call it anyway. I try to clear my mind. With laptop in lap, and me in my comfiest chair, I place hands on the keyboard, close my eyes, and let my fingers fly. (Oh, make sure your fingers are on the right keys to start!) No thought. Or very little thought. Don't stress about what is going down, just let it get on the paper. Keep in mind that you can edit and change everything later. In the end, you'll find that your mindless wanderings over the keyboard can promote some pretty darned good ideas. Try it!

Greetings!

Long Run ParkIt's Fall. Winter is closing in. Omigoodness, I can't believe it's November already. Where did the time go? Fly away on a breeze with the leaves from my trees?

Time has been slipping through my fingers lately and it always gives me pause to sit and reflect. I had plans for Fall, didn't I? The yard needed sprucing up. I was going to clean out the garage and get ready for the neighborhood yard sale. Of course, the yard sale happened last weekend and I've yet to venture into the murky depths of the garage. And, there were a couple of unfinished projects lurking around on my desktop that I wanted to tackle.

Didn't happen. So here I sit on November 1, terribly behind on a current project, the garage undone, and the shrubs still needing to be pruned. Oh. Well. There is always next weekend.

All we can do is keep plugging forward, right? One day at a time, one project at a time, one foot in front of the other. A wise friend once told me, "tackle the project you are dreading to do first, then the rest of your tasks are a breeze." Prioritizing also has to enter into the equation. There are things that MUST get done, and then there are things I would simply LIKE to get done.

Today, the one task on my list is to write this newsletter. It's not a task I dread because I love putting my thoughts together to share with each of you. So, when this one task is complete, I will feel successful for this day.

What is on your "to do" list this Fall?

All my best,
Maddie

The Ladies of Legend Books
Ladies of Legend: Finding Home
Legend, Tennessee: Nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, the city of Legend boasts of small town pride and southern elegance. Porches are still for sitting and troubles for one family affect the entire community.

This is the place where women from different backgrounds find purpose, love - and their futures - in a town intent on preserving its past.

The launch book for the series, Ladies of Legend: Finding Home, shares four stories, written by four storytellers, about four women ready to start again. Different backgrounds, one town, all searching for home, in one way or another.

Come join these ladies on their journey for love. You'll meet Lilly, Midnight, Suzie and Jane. Visit their town. Walk the streets. See where they work. Meet their friends. Experience the quirks of small-town living. And most of all, feel their stories right along with them, as they fall in love.

From Life, Unedited - A Visit to Cupcakeology
CupcakeologyI think many of you know that I have a little thing for cupcakes. It waxes and wanes, and over the summer, I didn't break into cupcake mode one time. I suppose that is why when I was driving down the road in Albuquerque recently, and this big CUPCAKE sign jumped directly into my line of vision, my rental car made a hard right turn and suddenly I was pulling into a parking space in front of Cupcakeology....

Barnes & Noble Announces New eReader
the NookMove over Kindle and Sony, there is a new eReader on the block. His name is Nook and you can make friends with him right now at Barnes & Noble.

Romance readers are huge buyers of eBooks, so it is no surprise that romance authors and readers are becoming fans of eBook reading devices. I know many of us read on our Blackberries, Smart Phones, and IPAQs. Others read from their laptop (me). And still others love a dedicated eReader. I, for one, have been lusting after a dedicated device for a while.

I may have just met my new eReader. Nook, come to Mama.

One of my favorite trips for my day job is when I drive from Phoenix to Show Low, AZ to visit a school in the area. Here are a couple of shots I took in September in the Salt River Canyon. Pretty as a picture, breathtaking in real life.
