Dear ,

The Judiciary Committee has not yet voted on HB 6599: An Act Concerning Discrimination. In the past two weeks:

In other words, we need your help today. We expect the Judiciary Committee to vote on HB 6599: An Act Concerning Discrimination this Tuesday, April 5.

5 steps to action (even if you've taken action already!)

Please contact YOUR Judiciary Committee legislator and request them to vote in favor of HB 6599 An Act Concerning Discrimination, with no amendments.

We've heard that there may be a particularly hateful amendment raised to the bill that would force teachers who are transitioning to move to another school district.

Transgender teachers do not confuse or cause harm to students.

Scientific studies indicate that children are not harmed or confused by the gender transition of parents or other adults in their lives. The research shows that children generally adjust quickly and easily to the change. Stories of transitioning teachers from California, New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina demonstrate that students did not experience confusion and that the overall experience for these teachers was positive. Teachers are already protected from discrimination based on gender identity under the laws of twelve states and over 100 local jurisdictions.  LGBT educators know to only share age-appropriate information with students; sharing this information does not harm students, psychologically or otherwise. There is no evidence that suggests that a transgender teacher will have a negative effect on the children they teach.

Thank you, in advance, for taking this action! We'll keep you posted on how things progress. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Peace,
Leif Mitchell and Liane Roseman
