How are we doing? Take our survey!

The first GLSEN Connecticut online survey is here!  The end of the school year is often a time of reflection, and we hope you'll put some of that to use by filling out our online survey.  Everything we learn will be factored into our plans for the upcoming school year, and, since you may use complete anonymity, we hope you'll be honest!

Greetings!

In some ways it feels hard to believe that the school year is winding down, but in other ways last September seems impossibly far away!
Kevin Jennings
We know this has been a busy, challenging year, and we would like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you who has put your heart and soul into making Connecticut's schools safer for all students.

There is no action too small!  If you were one of many supporters who stopped by our table at Hartford Pride to sign a petition demanding passage of the Safe Schools Improvement Act or to write a letter to your member of Congress, we thank you!  And, if you missed us, we hope we'll see you at Fairfield County Pride this coming Saturday, June 19th, from 1-4pm at St. Paul's on The Green in Norwalk.

If you are an LGBT student who has been harassed or discriminated against because of your sexual orientation and/or gender identity and expression, we would like to learn what happened!  Please email us to share your story, so we may then add it to the many others GLSEN National has collected.  They will share your stories with members of Congress to personally illustrate how dangerous schools can be, and the powerful need to pass the Safe Schools Improvement Act.

We hope summer vacation will provide a rejuvenating break. We want to assure you that all of us at GLSEN Connecticut are working diligently to provide wonderful resources and programming to further reduce bullying and harassment against LGBT students for the 2010/2011 school year.

Peace,

GLSEN Celebrates 20 Years at the 7th Annual GLSEN Respect Awards

GLSEN celebrated 20 years of making schools safe for all students in May by honoring Cyndi Lauper, Pfizer, American Express, Student Advocate of the Year Danielle Smith, and David Dechman and Michel Mercure at the seventh annual GLSEN Respect Awards - New York. One of GLSEN's most successful events to date, the gala also marked the first LGBT event for country music star Chely Wright, who came out earlier this month. She called the event her proudest moment yet as an out LGBT person. To view pictures, videos and read more about the event, click here.

We are so proud that GLSEN received a four star rating from Charity Navigator. Another good reason to support our work to combat anti-LGBT bullying and harrassment in our schools!
