| Greetings!
We can hardly believe that winter is almost over (let's hope!) and spring is around the corner. And, that means True Colors and the National Day of Silence are upon us. As we have been from the beginning, GLSEN Connecticut is a proud sponsor of the annual True Colors Conference. Please stop by our booth on March 12th and 13th at the University of Connecticut for ThinkB4YouSpeak posters, Day of Silence materials, etc...or just to say hi and put some faces to the names behind all these e-mails. GLSEN volunteers are offering several specific workshops, including: - "Knock it Off!" Tackling LGBT Issues in Schools Using Updated Resources from GLSEN CT (Leif Mitchell)
- That's So Gay! Practicing How to Intervene and Stop LGBT Bias in Your Schools (Cynthia Martin and Jason Sirois)
- Reclaiming the Silence: Using the Day of Silence as a Tool for Social Change (Alberto Cifuentes, Jr.)
- Using
the Safe Space Kit in schools (Leigh Thompson)
- Year-long Action Planning for GSAs (Leigh Thompson)
Please don't forget to save the date for the National Day Of Silence on April 16th, 2010! We look forward to helping to support students efforts to make schools safe and affirming for all students throughout Connecticut schools.
Peace, Leif Mitchell and Liane Roseman Co-Chairs, GLSEN Connecticut

Connecticut Specific Stories Needed to Support SNDA
As part of an effort to support the federal Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA), we at GLSEN Connecticut are helping to collect LGBT students' stories of discrimination and harassment in schools in Connecticut. This Act will protect students on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression in schools, and the bill will soon be introduced in the Senate. Students' stories will be used when meeting with Senators to show them that this type of discrimination and harassment really is a problem here in our state. We would appreciate any help you can provide with this project, particularly in the form of statistics about discrimination or harassment in Connecticut schools and also the stories of students, parents, or teachers who have faced discrimination.
Please send your stories to us via e-mail.
For more details or to download fact sheets on the bill, click here.

The Laramie Project in Brookfield
The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts is proud to
announce its upcoming production of The Laramie Project, March

of Laramie, Wyoming after the brutal beating of gay university
student Matthew Shepard, The Laramie Project asks us to look at
how we as individuals and as a society deal with issues of diversity and
hate. Laramie
becomes a mirror for all of our towns. For more information please
visit us on-line, and help us affect change with this powerful piece.
