Greetings!
No Name-Calling Week (NNCW) is an annual week of educational activities aimed at ending name-calling of all kinds in schools. Inspired by James Howe's anti-bullying novel The Misfits, NNCW is sponsored by a large coalition of diverse organizations dedicated to creating safer schools.
New this year, NNCW is being expanded from its traditional focus on elementary and middle schools to include high schools. In support of this initiative, a new lesson plan has been developed especially for high school students.
GLSEN Connecticut is happy to announce that through the generosity of some very special donors we are able to make No Name-Calling Week kits available to schools in Connecticut free of charge! (Otherwise they cost $129.95.)
Please submit the application to GLSEN Connecticut by January 5th.
All applications will be reviewed to see if the criteria is met; please note that demonstrated principal support is a mandatory requirement. You will be notified of our decision the week of January 11th.

As part of NNCW each year, GLSEN runs the national Creative Expressions Contest, where individual students, from primary (grades K-5), middle (grades 6-8) and high (grades 9-12) schools, can submit artwork dealing with themes of anti-name-calling and bullying. Also new this year a short-film category has been added for high school students. Winning entries will receive recognition and prizes which may include art supplies/kits, books from Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing, a No Name-Calling Week project kit from Human Relations Media, and more. The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 26, 2009.
If you have any questions about the No Name Calling Week kit application, please don't hesitate to contact Meredith Startz.
Hope your school terms are wrapping up nicely before the holiday break!
