NEWSLETTER TIPS

If you are like us, you are receiving more and more newsletters via email, just like this one.

To be a good citizen of the Internet here are a few tips to keep in mind to manage this type of email.

If your email address changes, remember to change the address for your newsletters.
For our newsletter this means clicking on the "Sign-up for free e-Newsletter" link on our website, or the "Update Profile/Email Address" link at the bottom of this newsletter.  Enter your current (original) email address.  Because you are already subscribed, you will be recognized and given instructions to update your profile, which is where you will provide your new email address.

Please, do not send Janice an email with your new email address.  While there are times she can do the update for you, depending on how you signed-up for our newsletters, she may not be able to make the change for you.

When you decide you no longer wish to receive a newsletter, then use the UNSUBSCRIBE option at the end of all legitimate e-newsletters.  This removes your email address from the list and stops it from being used again.
If you just delete the emails, that is a bother to you, and if you mark an email you subscribed to as Spam it punishes the legitimate business.  Only mark emails as Spam if you have not done business with that company, or did not request their emails.

NOTE:  The only people receiving our emails are those who have actively opted-in, and put their email address in our database.

We all love the convenience of email.  With these few tips, we hope it will help you manage the emails you want and minimize the ones you do not want.

Aloha!

We are excited this month to be introducing you to TWO NEW
2 Fabric Applique Quilt patterns!  The patterns are not quite ready to be shipped, but we wanted to give you the opportunity to place your orders now, so we can send them to you just as soon as they are ready.  The new patterns will ship before September 30.

We have a busy schedule this fall, and are sneaking in these two new patterns to keep you busy, too.  Busy loves company.

Janice has added lots of new quilt photos to the Galleries on our website.  We love that so many of you send us pictures of the quilts you have created from our patterns, or from Nancy's classes; and we love to share those pictures with everyone else.  So take a few minutes to admire the work of these talented quilters.  It may just inspire you to start, or finish, your quilt.  Click on these links, or hover over the LOOK tab on our website to find the Galleries.

HALLOWEEN
Spirited good fun!

HalloweenHalloween is the second-most decorated holiday in the US and dates back over 2000 years.  Fun for kids and adults, it seems nearly everyone enjoys the fun of costumes, candy and creepy things.

TIP:  We know most of you like hand applique, but we think this quilt is crying to be fused and machine stitched.  In just a day or two you can have this quilt completed and on the wall, just in time for your Halloween celebrations.

Traditionally we think of black and orange as Halloween colors, but when you think about making this quilt consider alternatives, like acid green, purple, brown, midnight blue, or gold.  It is successful with a dark applique fabric on a light background (above), or a light applique fabric on a dark background (below).  Lots of possibilities!

TIP:  The spider webs in the corners can quickly be accomplished with embroidery (machine or hand), or permanent fabric markers.  Why not add some sparkle using metallic thread or glitter?

When you think about how to quilt this one, consider quilting in a few more bats or spider webs, have a ghost coming out a window of the haunted house, or perch a crow on a tree branch.  Subtle touches that are seen only on close inspection.

HalloweenWe all know that new experiences fuel our creativity.  So, as you make plans for Halloween this year think about doing something different.  Here are a few ideas:  plan a scavenger hunt, host a pumpkin carving party, bob for apples, share scary ghost stories, take a hay ride, wander a corn maze, make a pumpkin pie from scratch, or visit a haunted house.  Be daring and have fun!

Halloween, 24" x 36" pattern, $12.00.  Buy it now.
____________

Fabric Packs are available for both new patterns, and new Packs are being added as new fabrics arrive for the Fall Season.  If you do not see what you want, email Janice with what you have in mind.  She will gladly put a Fabric Pack together just for you.

Pattern will be available for shipment before September 30.
 ZEBRAS
Mother and baby

Zebras
Some critters are perfect for a
2 Fabric Applique Quilt, and zebras are one of them.

In the beginning of the design process for this quilt, Nancy wanted it to be another family quilt, with mamma, papa, and baby (like our Penguin Family and Giraffe Family patterns).  But it quickly became apparent that would be too many skinny stripes!!  Augh!  No one would have wanted that.  Can you resist these eyes?!  This mom and her baby would love to make their home with you.

You already know that a zebra's stripes are as unique as human fingerprints.  So make your quilt as unique as you, with color.  Go wild with color to give these critters real panache.
Zebras
TIP:  Pair the Zebras quilt up with our Giraffe Family 2FAQ quilt for an African theme.

Zebras, 24" x 36" pattern, $12.00.
__________

Choose from a variety of Fabric Packs to make this and other 2 Fabric Applique Quilts.  We have beautiful new fabrics on the way for both our new quilts.  If you do not see exactly what you have in mind today, keep watching the website for more options, or let Janice know what you are looking for.
MARKING ON DARK OR PATTERNED FABRIC
Pattern Transfer Paper

It is easy to trace a 2 Fabric Applique Quilt (2FAQ) pattern on a light applique fabric by just placing the fabric on the pattern and tracing the cutting lines.  But what if your applique fabric is too dark to see the pattern lines, even if placed on a light box?  This could definitely be a problem with the new quilts we are introducing you to this month.   What to do??

The easiest solution is to use transfer paper.  For those of us old enough to remember either carbon paper (yes, in the old days of typewriters) or dressmakers carbon paper, you have the concept in mind already.  Here is how it works:

Pattern Transfer Paper
Pattern Transfer Paper
1)  Lay our applique fabric out flat on a hard surface, right side up, tape it in place.
2)  Lay the coated side of the transfer paper down on the fabric.
3)  Lay the pattern, right side up, on the transfer paper.  Pin the pattern to the applique fabric in the four corners.
4)  Using a dull pencil, chalk pencil, ballpoint pen*, or stylus, trace along every cutting line on the pattern, making sure to move the transfer paper as necessary. Voila, the applique fabric is all marked.  (* Never use a  ballpoint pen on your fabric, the ink will run when it gets wet.)

The Pattern Transfer Paper we sell is manufactured to our specifications by Saral Paper Corp in sheets that are 18" x 24".  These sheets are large enough to mark half of a 2FAQ pattern, then move the paper just one time to mark the other half.  You can purchase the same, or similar, papers with different names, but the sheets are smaller, requiring more effort to move the small sheets around to mark the whole quilt.

Note:  The lines created by the transfer paper are temporary, and will brush off.  So if you are planning to cut-as-you-applique, then you will want to go over the transferred lines with a more permanent marker.  See Ranger's Inkssentials pen on our website, as one option.

Our Pattern Transfer Paper is available in four colors:  blue, red, white and yellow.  Since you mostly use it for marking on dark fabric, any color generally will work.  For a short time we are selling the blue, red and yellow single sheets for just $4.00 each (single sheets are regularly priced at $5.75), that's a 30% savings. Click to buy now.

For more details about this product see the side-bar at left.

You can also purchase the assorted pack which has one sheet of each color for $20.00.  Click to buy the assorted pack.
