I HAVE A NOTION |
|
Introducing you to the notions Nancy and Janice use.
Retractable holder:
Snap your pocket scissors on this handy little retractable holder, clip it to your blouse, and your scissors are always where you are. No more wasted time hunting for the scissors you just set down. At only $4.00, this is the cheapest time-saver you will ever buy! Retractable cord is nearly 30" long. Buy now for just $4.00
Other things can be attached to these handy holders, like a small pin cushion, eyeglasses, pen, or badge.
Gingher pocket scissors:
These short-shaft, blunt nose scissors are great for cutting the applique fabric on your 2FAQ quilts. Just slip the blunt-nose tips between the layers of fabric and easily maneuver the short blades around curves and into valleys. The blunt-nose tips also make these safe for wearing on your retractable holder. No chance of stabbing yourself, or poking holes in your clothes. Buy now for just $26.00.

CUSTOMER QUESTION |
|
I discovered your website today and was delighted, but during my browsing I found pages on your site where the words were all jumbled up and lines overlapped one another. Am I going crazy?
No, you are not going crazy. There are known compatibility issues with the newest version of the Internet Explorer browser, IE8, and websites that were created with older browser technology (like ours and most other websites).
Users of IE8 run into the problem you described, but there is an easy fix. The quick solution is to click on the button just to the right of the very top bar where you type in URLs. The button icon looks like a piece of paper torn through the middle. When you hover over it with your mouse it says "Compatibility View". When you click on this button, the page you are having trouble viewing will be fixed! You can also click on the Tools drop-down menu at the top of the IE8 window and select "Compatibility View". Read IE8 Help to understand more about this.
Obviously the folks at IE8 knew they were creating a problem for their users, so luckily they provided an easy solution - but it only helps if you know about that little button!
We have put a reminder about this issue, and the solution, on a few of our web pages which have been particularly problematic. Over the long term Janice will be working to figure out how to update the pages to prevent the problem altogether.
The Internet and websites are very simple on the one hand, but very complex on the other, when there are so many different, old and new, technologies in use simultaneously. Ah, the wonders of advancing technology! Just maybe it is making us all a little crazy! But don't let it stop you from enjoying our website.
NOTE: Janice always appreciates it when people take the time to report problems they encounter with our website. Thank you.

BLUEGRASS BAND |
|
Hawaiian quilt without the tropics
One of the distinctive characteristics of a Hawaiian quilt is that the motifs used in the design have a special meaning to the quilter.
Janice's husband, Rudy, is a musician and luthier, so it was easy for her to design this quilt with things meaningful to both of them. Starting with the guitar picks in the piko (center), you will find guitars, mandolins, fiddles, and even the banjo in the outside border.
This is nothing new, some old Hawaiian quilts used non-floral motifs in their designs. Chandeliers, etched glass doors, cars & buses, even eagles and buffalos have found their way onto Hawaiian quilts.
If you were to design your own Hawaiian quilt, what would you put on it??
TIP: Join us in Hawaii, in May, to learn to design your Hawaiian quilt using motifs that are meaningful to you!

 Piggy-backing is good!
Nancy is always eager to teach or speak at more than one location when she travels. If she is able to book multiple events, then each group shares in her travel expenses. So it is just an economical and efficient way to get Nancy to your area. Check her Calendar and if you see that Nancy will be anywhere near* you, let your local shop or Guild know that you would like them to contact her to see if additional engagements can be arranged during the same trip. That way EVERYONE WINS!
Share our website with your shop owner or program chairperson. Print this pdf of Nancy's brochure and hand it to them. Nancy will travel to teach anywhere she is invited. and she would love to meet you in your town!
*Remember, Nancy is traveling from Oregon. So near means that if she will be in Florida, even Virginia is near. Think regionally. |
