2010 Registration Now Open!

Sailing CenterSBJSA is pleased to announce the registration forms are now available for Summer 2010. You will notice that we have made some changes in the both  the program and the schedule of instruction.
In essence we have not altered the great program that SBJSA has delivered for all these years we have just tried to package the program for the busy lifestyle that we enjoy today. Now available is a greater selection of programs and sessions to accommodate your schedule.

We have done away with our "levels" description of camper ability and replaced each boat program with LTS (Learn to Sail) and LTR (Learn to Race). Campers may choose boat types by either LTS or LTR options. We are developing a method by which campers can move though the program from ages 8-18 and experience all that sailing has to offer.

The racing program is still available as both an intramural program and as a travel racing team. The details are on our website located on the registration information page. Links from the information page will provide answers to your questions.

If your child has attended camp before and plans on returning this year we have a program for them. We will still have the curriculum that you have come to expect. Centered on the US Sailing Curriculum the sailing program is exceptional. Combined with our Red Cross Swimming program and the specials like: Big Boat Day, the bake-off, crazy outfit day, the scavenger hunt, and parents day SBJSA has it all.

Please visit our website and examine the registration process, follow the links to get the answers to your questions. We hope that you will consider SBJSA for your summer experience.

Safety - Fun - Learning
 Know your boats!

LTS, Learn to Sail
Learn to sail is available in three separate boat types. Optimist Dinghy, Laser, and Club 420. For example a new student (upon completion of 3rd grade) would most likely begin the LTS program in an Optimist Dinghy. Optimist sailors are usually from 8-15 years old and weigh approx. 80 - 120 lbs. The weight limit is recommended for both boat handling and safety.
Learn to sail is designed for the camper that wants to attend camp and proceed at their own pace while they learn the basics of boat handling, points of sail, and the enjoyment of being on the water.

LTS Laser requires that a camper be between 125-160 lbs for a Radial Laser and 160+ lbs for a full rigged laser sailboat.

Each LTS program has a series of milestones (new for 2010) for the camper to reach as they progress through the SBJSA Program.

LTR, Learn to Race
Learn to RACE is available in three separate boat types. Optimist Dinghy, Laser, and Club 420.
Learning to race involves the next level of skills from LTS. Not all students aspire to be on the travel racing teams but learning to race involves the skills that all sailors need to safely and competently handle boats.
LTR is designed to be an intramural style program in which students learns to get the most out of their boats. Timing, close points of sail, rules of the road, and maneuvering in traffic are all concepts taught at this level. A student may decide to move though the camp boats at the LTR level for several years if they wish.
Each LTR program has a series of milestones (new for 2010) for the camper to reach as they progress through the SBJSA Program.

The Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association, Inc., founded in 1956, offers a summer day camp program that provides an opportunity for its students to enjoy summer fun while developing swimming and sailing skills, and healthy interaction with their peers. Multiple levels of sailing instruction, seven levels of swimming instruction, and two racing programs are part of the summer's activities. Enthusiastic counselors offer meaningful opportunities for kids to try new things. Lifelong friendships are often formed. We're focused on positive youth development by providing a safe environment, positive role models and quality programming.

Sincerely,
