Sailing CenterThe facilities are all buttoned up now and we are working on our curriculum and plans for next summer. Our season was a great success and we hope the campers feel the same way. Many have already indicated that they are ready for next year. Please use these newsletters and our website as your guide in planning for next season. Just as we rely on campers to make our program a success we need your help to spread the word about SBJSA. If you know of a family that would be interested in a great summer experience please forward these emails to them.
SBJSA BBQ a BIG Success!

LIgntning LogoIf you missed this years BBQ/Fundraiser you certainly should plan to attend next year. SBJSA would like to thank all that attended and helped to make the event a huge success. The BBQ is the event each year that brings together campers, parents, supporters, and alumni to partake in the SBJSA experience. You may recognize many former campers in the photo section, of course they span over 50 years of memories.

This years event coincided with the Lightning North Americans hosted by the Sodus Bay Yacht Club. We shared facilities and the BBQ with many new and old friends in the Lightning class.

In addition to the many raffle items several patrons and supporters donated unique auction items that really enhanced our opportunities to raise funds. Mike Healy once again was our master of ceremonies and head auctioneer. Check out the BBQ photographs at SBJSA.

LIgntning LogoIt was great honor and for SBJSA to accept a perpetual trophy in memory of Bill Sill. During this years BBQ/celebration Fisk Hayden, a former SBJSA camper and Lightning sailor, presented the trophy to SBJSA to be awarded annually. The Deed of Gift states: The Bill Sill Memorial Trophy is a perpetual trophy. It is awarded annually to the SBJSA sailor who best meets the following criteria:
1. Demonstrates perseverance and courage pursuing the sport of sailing to the best of their abilities.
2. Continually strives to improve and become a better sailor.
3. Demonstrates an appreciation for crew and teammates.
4. Always demonstrates good sportsmanship when representing SBJSA/SBYC in all competitive events.
5. Always is an Ambassador of Great Sodus Bay.

The first recipient of the Bill Sill Memorial Trophy is Lindsay Antinoro pictured above with sailing coach Scott Possee and award sponsor Fisk Hayden.

Also on hand with Fisk were Dawn, Stu, and Sue Sill. The Sill's are long time friends and supporters of SBJSA.

 Bloomer, Charles K. "Kemp"

With great sadness SBJSA learns of the passing of long time friend and founding member of SBJSA. "Kemp" will be missed on Sodus Bay:

He was born on January 21, 1926, the son of Charles Tallman and Charlotte (Kemper) Bloomer. Kemp grew up in Newark and spent most of his life there. He served in the Air Force at the end of World War II. He graduated from MIT and worked for Mobil Chemical for many years. An avid sailor, he enjoyed racing on both Sodus Bay and Lake Ontario. His college sailing exploits earned him a place in the Intercollegiate Sailing Hall of Fame at Annapolis. Kemp was one of the founders of the Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association, PO Box 117, Sodus Point, New York 14555 to which memorials may be directed in his memory.

The Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association, Inc., founded in 1956, offers a summer day camp program that provides an opportunity for its students to enjoy summer fun while developing swimming and sailing skills, and healthy interaction with their peers. Multiple levels of sailing instruction, seven levels of swimming instruction, and two racing programs are part of the summer's activities. Enthusiastic counselors offer meaningful opportunities for kids to try new things. Lifelong friendships are often formed. We're focused on positive youth development by providing a safe environment, positive role models and quality programming.

Sincerely,
