Capitol Funding
SBJSA has just recieved the promised funding from New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio. Senator Nozzolio was instrumental in securing funding for our new educational center and additional operational funds. The SBJSA community also owes a big thank-you to Hank Stuart ( Capital Campaign Chair) and Jerry Palmer (Co-Chair) for spearheading this project. The fruits of this effort are easily visable by just visiting our new sailing center. Please drop by this summer and visit. Our annual BBQ Fundraiser would be a great time to visit and rekindle old friendships.

Lightning North Americans
2009 brings a major sailing event to Sodus Bay Yacht Club and SBJSA. Sodus Bay Yacht Club will host the Lightning Class Women's, Junior's, Master's, and North American North American Championships for 2009. SBJSA campers will see first hand how this National Championship unfolds. The opportunity is there for some SBJSA campers to campaign our school Lightning in this event.
This years Fundraiser/Barbeque will take place during the Lightning North Americans and we anticipate many attendees. Plans are now being made for great prizes, raffle items, and food. Details will follow in later newsletters so please put this on your calendar soon. The date is Wednesday August 5th.

SBJSA Racing Program
The schedule of travel races has yet to be established by the Centrals (Central New York Sailing Association) committees. As soon as we have the travel schedule we will post it on the SBJSA website. In the mean time Jr. Sailors that are thinking about competition should be aware of the regional and national competitions available to them. You will find a complete list of these events on the US Sailing website. The Youth Championships are listed here.

SBJSA Curriculum
The SBJSA Curriculum Committee has been working over the winter months in preparation for our future. We are closely matching our fleet of boats with the US Sailing Instructional Curriculum. The effort is designed to more closely match our ages, skills, and interests with our fleet sizes and future purchases. Our fleet now consists of 23 Optis, 19 Lasers, 5 420s, 1 Lightning, and 1 J/24. Our new curriculum initiative is an ongoing process that will be phased in over the next few years.
The Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association, Inc., founded in 1956, offers a summer day camp program that provides an opportunity for its students to enjoy summer fun while developing swimming and sailing skills, and healthy interaction with their peers. Four levels of sailing instruction, seven levels of swimming instruction, and two racing programs are part of the summer's activities. Enthusiastic counselors offer meaningful opportunites for kids to try new things. Lifelong friendships are often formed. We're focused on positive youth development by providing a safe environment, positive role models and quality programming.

Sincerely,
