The Compass

Before we begin our typical weekly update, we would like to give you an update from the last week.

FACTS:
Last Saturday our city was hit by an historic flash flood that caused incalculable damage to the Antioch area.  While thousands were affected, the damage to LCF was extensive.  Our Hope House, now an icon of the May 3 flood, was destroyed on I24.  The preschool building and Laotian church building have also suffered irreparable damage.  Every part of our campus was affected by the flood through flood damage, power loss, etc.  As LCF does not carry flood insurance, it appears that we will receive $2500 total to recompense for the hundreds of thousands of dollars in loss suffered.

WHAT GOD IS DOING AT LCF:
Literally hundreds of volunteers have passed through LCF this week.  From Monday morning through tonight, volunteers have labored from sunup to sundown.  Our LCF Disaster Relief Team, led by Melissa Thomas, has led this amazing work.  As a result, LCS (even the preschool!) was able to resume classes on Wednesday!  The preschool buildings and Lao church have been completely gutted and are ready for mold treatment.  It is truly astounding to see what God has done for LCF by His power and through His people.

WHAT GOD IS DOING IN ANTIOCH:
Early on Monday, area pastors began to unite to help the community of Antioch.  A Flood Relief Center has been established at Antioch United Methodist Church and volunteers from local churches (including LCF) are working each day to assess damage to individual homes and businesses and send out teams and resources for those in need.  As a result thousands are receiving labor, food, clothing, furniture, and more.

YOU CAN HELP:
While so much has been accomplished, there is still much to be done.  We have a unique opportunity to reach the people of Antioch with the good news and love of Jesus Christ.  We want to do everything possible to love our city well in this crisis.  To that end, we are mobilizing volunteers each day and planning specific work days for our church family.  If you can volunteer at any point this week, please reply with your availability and any specific skills or tools you possess.

LCF COMMUNITY WORK DAY - THIS SATURDAY, MAY 8TH, FROM 9-NOON!

Amazing Grace - week 3
This current crisis has provided a canvas on which the grace of God is not only discussed but seen and experienced.  This Sunday, we will discuss God's grace in the midst of disaster,  we will have a testimony time where you can share your stories from the week, and we will honor our mothers and pray for the Brysons.  Please plan to join us for this unique family service.
