Our TV Debut - An Enkaustikos Morning Show Appearance

katu logoIf you live in the Portland, OR area you may have seen our products make a surprise appearance on the AM Northwest Morning Show.  Their art and craft designer, Shirley Rufener used both Hot Cakes and Hot Sticks in her unique craft project segment called "Waxy Wall Art".

In the brief segment, Shirley offered viewers a fun and simple project  idea of making wall art using wax paints.  This morning show appearance was definitely a fun and unique opportunity for Enkaustikos...plus, who doesn't love getting 5 minutes of morning show fame!  We are happy to report that since performing the demo, Shirley has truly fallen in love with encaustic and plans to continue painting during her free time.

Upcoming Classes At The Encaustic Art Institute

video frame shotThis May, Kathryn Bevier from Enkaustikos will be holding two classes at The Encaustic Art Institute (EAI) in Cerillos, NM.  The Encaustic Art Institute is nestled on a high mesa between Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

The "Let's Get Started" class will be from 9am - 4pm on Tuesday, May 17th - Thursday May 19th.  This workshop teaches the fundamental working properties of encaustic paints to help students achieve a solid understanding of how to enhance their artistic expression with encaustic.  Kathryn will cover the following topics: studio set-up, preparation of surfaces, color mixing, the many ways to achieve different textures, proper fusing techniques, care and maintenance of supplies and artwork, and safety.

The "Exploring Encaustic with Collage and Mixed Media" class will be from 9am - 4pm on Saturday, May 21st - Monday, May 23rd.  This workshop focuses on adhering, encapsulating, and incorporating collage and mixed media materials with transparent and glaze applications of encaustic paints and wax medium.  Students will learn different ways in which to include pastels, charcoal, and graphite into their work.  Participants will also gain knowledge of working with a variety of papers, gold leaf, and plant materials.
