Greetings!
It's been a few months since my last article, featuring Adventist Health. I am excited today, to share with you, the story of Dylan Conner, Mr. Appliance® of Central Valley. I had the pleasure of meeting Dylan through my involvement in the Kings County Business Executives Association. When Dylan saw my eblast about Doing well...by doing good, he got VERY excited!
Dylan is second generation, in Conner's Appliance. His father, Larry Conner, began Conner's in 1980. In 2009, Dylan made the strategic business move of joining the Mr. Appliance family of businesses, and today, he is grateful he did. In doing so, new life has been pumped into his business. I know his insights will give our local business community some food for thought, as we enter the season of Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
Pauline Hershey - President All Valley Printing, Inc. P.S. a portion of the proceeds from all purchases you make with All Valley Printing during the month of November, will be donated to KCAO for use at the Barbara Saville Women's Shelter. Our small way of doing good, this holiday season. |

Every Repair Counts
Appliance repair is more than fixing dishwashers to Dylan Conner, owner of Mr. Appliance® of Central Valley in Fresno, Calif. Each twist of a screw and replacement of a part is a way to give back to Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) and support families in need. When Dylan got involved in the Mr. Appliance family, he learned that this great business is SERIOUS about its giving. In particular, with the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Four of the Dwyer Group franchises (Mr Appliance, Mr Rooter, Mr Electric, and Glass Doctor) donated $25,000 each to the Ronald McDonald House Charities).
AVP - How has your perspective changed, regarding "Doing Well, by Doing Good?"
"The Dwyer Group, has a code of values they call Live Rich. The idea is to have a well rounded life in all areas. Work, Spirituality, Health, Fun, Charity, and any other areas should be fairly equal. In training they have a course called Design your life. Its purpose is to open your eyes to what you really want your life and business to look like and set goals. Part of the joy of owning your own business is the privilege of giving back." AVP - Does your contribution, being part of a Nationwide Franchise, come back to help those in the Central Valley? "Absolutely! We service the appliances at the Ronald McDonald House (Madera) free of charge and have replaced several. This is what we call an "in kind" donation. When Dwyer Group announced their $100,000 sponsorship they encouraged the franchises to offer their services to RMHC free of charge. We drove up to Madera the same day and toured the house. We ended up replacing two dishwashers and a microwave in the first week and repaired a washer and cook top as well. We have since been back on several occasions this year to make repairs and check in with the staff."
AVP - Do you have advice for others?
"Jump in and find an organization that needs help. It could be Ronald McDonald House Charities, A Woman's Shelter, A rescue mission, any group that helps people in need. Just ask them if you can help. Not only is it a good moral decisision, but it just makes sense. The community gives us business and it is our privilege to give back."
AVP - How has "Doing Well, by Doing Good?" improved business for Mr. Appliance?
"We have seen growth not only in our business, but in our team. People like working for a company that has a mission beyond just making money. They feel like a part of something bigger serving the greater good. There have been some nice perks as far as free advertising and being able to attend certain functions, but the blessing of being able to give back far outweighs all of that. It is my goal to increase our giving and charity as our business grows. At the end of life I want to be able to look back without regret and be proud of my company's, familys' and my own accomplishments.
What better way to do that than help those in need!"
Dylan, we couldn't agree more! Keep doing what you do! - AVP |
