What, Who, When, Why, Who: 2010 Census
|
The 2010 Census determines the distribution of $300 billion annually of government funding for community services such as hospitals, schools, roads and other facilities. A stronger community allows your business to prosper, attract employees and create a better market for your products and services. An incomplete count could mean your community does not receive its fair share of funding. The Census also determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils, and voting districts.
The 2010 Census questionnaire asks a few simple questions of each person-name, relationship, gender, age and date of birth, race, and whether the respondent owns or rents his or her home. This questionnaire takes just a few moments to complete and return by mail. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual's answers with anyone, including welfare and immigration agencies.
The Census Bureau must count everyone and submit state population totals to the U.S. President by December 31, 2010.
Households that do not respond will be called or visited by a Census worker. (Census workers can be identified by a census badge and bag.)
What: Count The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States: in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Island Areas. People should be counted where they live and sleep most of the year.
Who: Everyone All residents of the United States must be counted. This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, citizens and non-citizens.
When: Every 10 years Every 10 years, and the next census occurs in 2010. Census questionnaires will be mailed or delivered to every household in the United States in March 2010. The questions ask you to provide information that is accurate for your household as of April 1, 2010.
Why The U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 2) mandates a headcount of everyone residing in the United States. The population totals determine each state's Congressional representation. The numbers also affect funding in your community and help inform decision makers about how your community is changing.
How The Census Bureau will mail or deliver questionnaires to your house in March 2010. We will mail a second form to households that do not respond to the initial questionnaire.
Your participation is very important!

It doesn't take long to change a Business! by Greg |
|
Things to consider, to change your future! What a perfect storm for the businesses of the United States and specifically Michigan, a recession, the advent of the information age and the bankruptcy of major corporations! Situations like these are bound to impact a business. The question for the business owners of today is what to do, and specifically, what are you doing to respond?
A major role of the Chambers of Commerce across the country is to assist in providing perspective, ideas and hope to businesses in times of change. We are certainly in a time of change. For example, in 2006 there were 2.6 billion searches per month on google; in recent months that figure has grown to over 30 billion searches per month. You might ask what this has to do with my business? Some part of the additional 28 billion plus searches (questions customers are asking) per month used to be asked of local businesses and now people just automatically go to the internet. This does not mean you are going out of business, however It does mean you have to do business differently.
The following questions are designed to provoke thought. Please take the time to do a quick analysis of your current situation and then think about what you could do to affect change and profit in your business! Your Current Path...
1. Do you have a vision of how much money, by month, you want to make in the next 6 months? Yes / No
2. Do you have a specific strategy to get your word out about you and your business? Yes / No 3. Does your strategy include referral programs? Yes / No 4. When people search your name online are you happy with what they find? Yes / No 5. When customers look at the exterior of your store do they like what they see? Yes / No 6. Do you have any co-branding initiatives with other businesses or products? Yes / No 7. Have you ask your customers in the last 6 months how you can better serve them? Yes / No 8. Are you leveraging your knowledge and information to generate revenue online? Yes / No 9. Are you edifying and promoting the businesses around you? Yes / No 10. Are you interested in participating in a project to increase customer traffic, sales and profit in your business? Yes / No
Let me offer a few ideas that might just change your business tomorrow (or even today if there implemented):
Improve the appearance of your store both in and out *Put a nice colorful pot of flowers out front (and then get the business on both side of you to do the same thing) *Clean the windows *Wash the walk down in front of your store and pick up any trash
Talk to your neighboring businesses and agree that you are going to tell every customer that comes in about there store's and specials and have them do the same for you and if they don't want to cooperate do it any way - be a leader
Start collecting information about your customers (more about this in a future article) *Cell phone numbers *Email addresses *How you may serve them better or what specifically their looking for in a business like yours Yes, times are challenging, though what a great time it is to be alive, never before have things change as much and as quickly as they are today and it is only going to increase in speed! We are uniquely positioned by being on the journey at this time in our lives, and have much to be grateful for, now go and make a change today! Act today and enjoy tomorrow! Greg This article was contributed by Greg Rau & Associates, Inc. a branding/solution provider dedicated to working with the businesses and individuals of the world! Providing Information Age solutions and programs preparing you and your business for the challenges of tomorrow! We leverage the power of your vision, passion, will and brand, to develop you and your organization as an expert, impacting your financial future today and tomorrow! To learn more email or call Greg @ 248-721-834 or gregrau@theexpertsway.com and remember: "Today if people cannot find you, you don't exist...the only question is "when they do, will you want what they find to define you"!
