Greetings!
The month of May is full of wonderful things! So get out your gardening tools, dust off those golf clubs and clean out that camper, because the long weekends will soon be starting.
Tie up those laces and go for a walk. Stop in to say "hello" to your business neighbors. Talk to them about what great and wonderful things that you and your business has been doing during these past cold winter months. What a great way to get reacquainted with an old friend and new customers.
Take advantage of this months Member Savings Coupon, compliments of Munro Printing, 15% off your printing!

Branding You! By: Greg |
TIMES....... they are a-changing!!! I don't have to tell anyone that things have changed. The question is, have you? We all knew the information age was coming; we are in the middle of it and will be for a long time. How does this affect your business? Have you thought about it? Do you want to think about it? Neither do I, but we don't have a choice, that is, if we want to stay in business! A colleague of mine recently said that he wished he would live another 100 years just to see how all this plays out! There is something profound about that statement, mostly, that this 60 year old has embraced the change and is currently receiving 500 visits to his website every month and was asking me how he could increase it! Where did I meet this survivor? at a Chamber of Commerce meeting. You might be surprised with the quality, knowledge and intellect you will find in a Chamber meeting! Now, we all know it's not the only place to learn, but those of you that are reading this already belong. Why wouldn't you attend! Are you going to win???? Only you can answer this! I can tell you that you will not win with what you were doing 5 years ago, 5 months ago, 5 days ago and maybe not even 5 hours ago. Let's read this and take it to heart! Two points to consider:
Leverage your assets - have you taken inventory of the help that surrounds you? A short list of help that is available:
Chamber Meetings & newsletters (if they're not meetingour expectations, let the Chamber know so they can change)
Look to the left and right of your business and ask your self, "How can we create more business / customers"? Now is the time to act! Spring is here, summer is around the corner, the actions you take today may be the very thing that allows you to start next year in business.
The teen-aged, part-time employee you can't relate to is already plugged into the information age!
Learn - I don't mean reading or listening to the negative news. When's the last time you:
*Read a book?
*Listened to a book?
*Attended a seminar (don't let money be an excuse; there's always something you can give up for your future)
*Ask for help. Asking for help is a powerful process of revealing yourself to the point of humility and learning.
*Be honest. Look in the mirror and say, "my name is Greg and my business is broken" and say it every day until it isn't!
Remember, you're the chamber, "be involved and succeed"! Act today and enjoy tomorrow! Greg Greg is a speaker, entrepreneur and the owner of Greg Rau & Associates, Inc. an online advertising and branding consulting company! To learn more about branding your business or yourself in your local market, email gregrau38@gmail.com or call Greg @ 248-721-834 and remember: If someone is searching for your product or service on-line, are they findingyou or your competitor? We take the guesswork out of online advertising and branding for less than the cost of a cup of coffee a day. Whether Google, Yahoo, Mapquest, or Facebook, we give your business a prominent position on all the major search engines and over 1000 other websites!

Ozone Action Season Begins May 1 |
|
The 16th year of Southeast Michigan's voluntary program that helps keep the air clean begins on May 1. SEMCOG, Southeast Council of Governments, asks you to spread the air quality message to your residents, members, employees, and patrons. Ground-level ozone is a result of hot, sunny days. Elevated levels can be a health hazard, particularly for the elderly, the young, and those suffering from respiratory ailments such as emphysema or asthma. Current standards are much tougher than in the past, making it even more important for residents to take action on Ozone Action days. The good news is that many of the actions that can make a difference for air quality can also save money during these difficult economic times.
Maintain your car with tune-ups, oil changes, clean air filters, and proper tire inflation. This can save you 23 gallons of gasoline per year on average.
Trip chain. Combining three trips into one each week could eliminate 200 miles on your vehicle, save 10 hours of time, and 10 gallons of gas a year.
Telecommute. Working from home one day a week can save the typical commuter 1,200 miles on their vehicle and over 58 gallons of gas a year. To help notify your residents, members, employees, and patrons, please order the Ozone Action materials you will need for the 2009 season. Let us know how we can help you be successful in getting the word out. Please download the Ozone Action Promotional Materials Order Form. After downloading, open the form, go to "File" and select "Save As" to save a copy to your computer. The form can then be filled out electronically and e-mailed to ozoneaction@semcog.org. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . City of Eastpointe "Welcomb Bags" |
The City of Eastpointe is again providing "Welcome Bags" to the new residents of our fine community. It's time for us to once again open the opportunity up to Eastpointe businesses to advertise their products, services, and/or community spirit to the newest residents of the City! The packages are intended to warmly welcome new residents and to encourage them to utilize local businesses. Included in the package is extensive information on the community and the schools. Local students and volunteers personally deliver the bags to the new residents. We would like to encourage Eastpointe businesses to participate in this project by advertising in the package. Standard advertisements will not be accepted. Businesses must submit items of "substantial value" to be included in the package. Examples include personalized pens or gadgets, coupons for "free" items (as opposed to "with purchase"), etc. Roughly 1200 packages will be delivered this year. Those wishing to make a submission to the package should do so in quantities sufficient for one year, if possible. If you wish to take advantage of this wonderful marketing opportunity, please complete the information below and return it to STEVE HORSTMAN, City Hall, 23200 Gratiot, Eastpointe, MI 48021. In order to be included in spring 2009 delivery, I must receive the materials no later than Monday, May 4, 2009. Include payment of $40.00 and a year's supply of your submission. Checks should be made payable to City of Eastpointe. Call 445-5016 with any questions. Click here for Form |

What To Do To Make Sure You're Prepared For A Power Outage |
|
You can get most of the items you need from a Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber Member:
ˇ Keep flashlights and a portable radio handy. Make sure you have fresh batteries. Lanterns and battery-operated lights are a safe alternative to candles.
ˇKeep a list of emergency numbers near your phone. Most phones should still work.
ˇSome cordless phones operate only with electricity. Keep a cell phone or other phone that works without electricity.
ˇBecome familiar with where your electric circuit box is located and know how to turn your power on and off.
ˇ If you have electrically powered life-support equipment, before a power outage occurs, ask your physician, nurse or equipment supplier about emergency backup.
ˇ If you have a generator, you must have a transfer switch installed in your fuse box by a licensed electrician, for protection of our line workers.
. Keep a supply of canned food and, if you have an infant, baby formula. Make sure you have a manual can opener.
. Keep a complete first-aid kit and a sufficient supply of prescription medications on hand at all times.
