Polymer Clay Owl Bride
by Lilian Huang

I saw a lot of polymer clay covered eggs on the internet.  They are so lovely and unique, so I've tried to do the same thing.  I could not believe it worked and they were so adorable.  I really like the idea to use an egg as the base for my owls.  Eggs are easy to get, and the best thing is they are recycled for free.

Carmex Home Town Honors Lisa Pavelka's 365 Days of Lip Service

By Rick Romell of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin Journal Sentinel

"The Milwaukee area's iconic lip balm, which over the years has inspired love letters from the devoted and dark whispers of addictive powers - untrue, its makers say - from critics, has advanced another step:

The little yellow topical analgesic that the late Alfred Woelbing first cooked up on his hot plate in the 1930s is being incorporated into objets d'art.

Lisa Pavelka, a mixed-media artist who discovered Carmex in high school in Denver years ago and has used it ever since, is now undertaking what she calls "365 Days of Lip Service."

We're No Spring Chickens
Spring is here, and a favorite project for many polymer clay enthusiasts is to cover an empty bird's eggshell (chicken, goose, emu, ostrich, etc) with polymer clay.  Once the eggshell is emptied and the inside has dried, it is a perfect canvas for a wide variety of decorative techniques.

We've asked a few people to show us their eggs and give a short comment about their pieces.  We've also included a list of free tutorials on decorating eggs with polymer clay.

Guild Spotlight:
Orlando Area Polymer Clay Guild

by Nancy Welch

The Orlando Area Polymer Clay Guild, formed in the fall of 2003, has continued to grow and thrive under the tutelage of many of the original members.

We meet on the last Saturday of the month at the First Methodist Church in Winter Garden, Florida, and welcome anyone who would like to come and "clay" with us whether they are beginners or experienced enthusiasts.  Each month a member of the guild or an invited guest gives a tutorial on a chosen clay technique.  We are proud of our warm, sharing group of ladies, many traveling long distances to be there each month.

Synergy3 International Conference
A Note From The Committee Chair, Connie Clark

As Synergy 3 Committee Chair, I'm really excited about next year's conference in Atlanta.  We've selected this city for our third Synergy event for a couple of key reasons.

The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will make it easier for attendees to reach the conference as it is the busiest passenger airport in the world, offering a greater number of flight options benefiting both U.S. and International participants.

The lovely Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter Galleria hotel is a tranquil retreat in Atlanta's suburbs and conveniently near the Cobb Galleria Centre, where the American Craft Council event will run at the same time as Synergy, allowing people to enjoy the benefits of both events if they choose.

Nearby are shopping malls, restaurants, and entertainment options available for those interested in venturing out.  Should attendees prefer, they can opt to never leave the hotel, as all necessities are in that one beautiful location.

Our theme is "Seeking Higher Ground".  It is our hope that artists not only in polymer clay, but of many different mediums, will appreciate the universal benefits of the conference.
