It's hard to believe that my year as MAHPBA President is almost over. Being a part of the MAHPBA Board of Directors has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I'm proud of the work we've done in the Mid Atlantic. Although we are one of the youngest affiliates, we have grown to be one of the strongest.
I would suggest that all members consider taking an active role in our association at some point in time. It is most especially important now that we band together. The competition for consumer dollars today demands that we bring our best game. Your MAHPBA membership is invaluable in all its areas.
In the past few years, our Education Committee has provided us with training and continuing education sessions, the value of which far exceeds the cost of annual membership. The Government Affairs Committee has our backs -- watching out for issues and situations that could impact the way we do business. We've increased our communications tremendously with the website and newsletters to make sure you are well informed.
Our Annual Meeting has become one of the best in the nation and will continue to bring value to membership. Remember that the work that goes into such events is the result of volunteerism by members like you. Please give some thought to pitching in and helping by contacting a Board member and telling them that you are ready to give back! And when your renewal notice comes in the mail, remember there is no better spent money.

Have you received your MAHPBA Membership Renewal invoice in the mail yet? Please make sure you renew by December 31st in order to keep receiving all the great benefits of being a MAHPBA member!
Also, don't forget about the Referral Bucks Program. Refer a new member and receive $50 "MAHPBA Bucks" to be used towards anything MAHPBA (education, annual meeting, etc.)!

The dates for 2011 NFI education classes have been decided! Actual locations and times for the training dates will be announced in the near future. Here are the dates for each area:
Philadelphia, PA area: May 16th - 18th
Annual Meeting, Lancaster, PA: June 7th
Maryland area: August 8th - 10th

Are you PCI compliant? If you take credit card payments, you'd better be.
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) was designed to ensure that any organization that processes, stores, or transmits credit card information does so in a secure environment. In basic terms, anyone who has a merchant ID, regardless of size, falls under this realm and the deadline to be compliant is now. The first phase of the standard went into effect on July 1, 2010. Any merchant that uses a third party software for processing credit cards must use a validated application.
There are 12 requirements that must be met in order for an organization to be compliant.

2010 Subscriptions for He@rth Online Training are valid until March 31, 2011. In addition to all of the Live classes, a subscription will give you access to OnDemand versions of almost all of the Live classes plus selected recordings from EXPO Education sessions from previous years.

If you have not been certified, PLEASE do not delay! Many community colleges and tech schools are hosting these courses as part of their community or adult educational programs. Other trade associations are routinely organizing lead paint classes as well.

With the busy season just around the corner, you will most likely be asked to provide evidence of insurance for those you do work for.
The most common way to meet this request is to provide a certificate of insurance (COI) to your customer.
