We invite family strengthening networks from eligible counties to apply for the Capacity Building for Family Strengthening Networks Project.  

Strategies and the California Department of Social Services Office of Child Abuse Prevention recognize the role family support networks play in strengthening the field and their member agencies.  From November 2009 through June 2010, we will be providing an opportunity for networks from eligible counties to receive up to $3,500 and 15 hours of direct technical assistance to support the networks' capacity building efforts.  

Eligible counties are in the Northern and Central Strategies Regions.  Click the link below to determine if you're in an eligible county and which Region is your contact.

E-Cigarettes Should Be for Adults Only, Calif. Lawmaker Says  August 18, 2009

Youths should be prohibited from using so-called e-cigarettes just as they are barred from smoking traditional cigarettes, says California state Sen. Ellen Corbett.

The Sacramento Bee reported Aug. 14 that while California law makes it illegal for youths under age 18 to smoke cigarettes, it is silent on the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) that deliver a dose of vaporized nicotine to users without burning tobacco.

Research Report:
Report Finds Substantial Reduction in Tobacco Sales to Underage Youth

A report released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration finds that retail sales of tobacco products to underage youth have continued to decline under the Synar Amendment, which requires states to establish laws and enforcement programs that prohibit the sale and distribution of tobacco to individuals younger than age 18, USA Today reports
