IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL TIME
|
It's
that time of year when our thoughts go to the youth and children in our
county and what's in store for them as they prepare for school and
ultimately for life.
United Way is working to advance the
common good by focusing on the building blocks for a good life. One of these building blocks is ensuring that our children and youth will succeed in school and in life.
In
this edition, we'll focus on this goal. You'll learn what the United Way of Santa Cruz County is doing
today to create long-lasting changes in children's lives by
addressing the underlying causes of problems.
Our measurable goals for youth are:
- Increased readiness to achieve in school
-
Increased high school graduation rate
-
Increased academic achievement
-
Increased participation in pro-social and volunteerism
-
Decreased alcohol, tobacco and drug use
And we are asking people to be part of this
change..to give, advocate, and volunteer to ensure youth success. The
fact is, we all--no matter our age-- can inspire hope and create
opportunities for a better tomorrow.
Look around this edition, we hope you'll find a way for you to LIVE UNITED.

DO YOU KNOW AN UP AND COMING SUPER STAR?
Sports Illustrated Kids and United Way are searching nationwide for
young athletes who are making exceptional contributions--on and off the
field of play.
If you know a kid who excels in sports, does well in school and gives
back to the community, tell us about them! They could end up on the
cover of Sports Illustrated Kids!
