Community Heroes

The United Way's County Assessment Project (CAP) has set 19 community goals to make Santa Cruz county residents, safer, healthier and more politically involved. We now want to honor some of the people that are pushing our county forward.

Our Executive Director, Mary Lou Goeke, says it best: "It is so inspiring to celebrate the people who are making a positive difference in our county. Community Goals are our collective aspirations for the future.  But Community  Heroes are the people who make that future come true." Nominees don't have to have fancy titles or big paychecks; they simply have to be doing some good in our community. For more information and to nominate your hero CLICK HERE.

GFH! 2009 School Wellness Recognition Award Winners

Golf LogoIn 2004, school districts nationwide were required to create wellness policies that put their commitment to student health in writing.  The wellness policies include goals for nutrition education and physical activity, and nutrition guidelines for all foods sold on school campus during the school day.

The School Wellness Recognition Award is an appreciation program for those schools, districts, and individuals who have made a concerted effort to adopt into both principle and practice the goals of the School Wellness Policies.  At the Go for Health! Collaborative, we recognize that each school must make sacrifices in the already busy schedules of school staff in order to make changes on campus.  But a well-nourished and active child is a better learner-nothing is more important than the physical well being of each student.
Please help us in congratulating the following winners for their exemplary efforts in creating a healthier environment at schools for Santa Cruz County children and youth.
