Utah, like Kansas and most states, has a budget problem. Some people have come up with an unusual approach to help keep the budget in check: Drop 12th grade, or at least let students who prove they are competent leave early. That's the idea of Sen. Chris Buttars.

Editorial from Kansas.com: No good options for school cuts
Some legislative leaders are recognizing the need to raise taxes to avoid devastating budget cuts to schools and social services, with Senate President Steve Morris, R-Hugoton, having announced Friday that he would push a $300 million tax plan. But given that many other lawmakers are still stubbornly opposed to any tax increase, school districts are wise to prepare for the worst.

does a great job of sharing and highlighting some fantastic primary
sources. And even though the site focuses on a fairly specific sub-set
of Kansas-related stuff, anyone who is teaching American History should

MACE: My favorite nerds
Last week was a hectic week but it ended on a positive note. I got to
attend MACE, that stands for Mid America Computers in Education, in
Manhattan Kansas. MACE is always one of my favorite conferences to
attend, not so much for the presentations but for the people. You see,
MACE attract some of the most innovative, and creating, nerd wannabes
around the state. For the most part they're classroom teachers who are
figuring out new and unique ways to use technology in their classrooms.
