PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY NOTE

Susan GreenAdmittedly (and I know I'm not alone), Public Policy discussions can cause the eyes to glaze and the mind to wander.  As the June Joint Public Policy meeting approached, I found myself less than 100% enthusiastic about the meeting, anticipating an hour of updates regarding the doomsday forecast for the State of Minnesota.  I was pleased to find that my assumptions were incorrect.  While Sean Kershaw, Executive Director of the Citizens League took a little time to provide us with facts about the difficult budget situation we face, he went on to articulate a message of hope.  He described the work that is being done by the Citizens League, a group of intelligent, collaborative, innovative people who have truly been successful in traversing party lines.  Their fresh ideas have been presented to our State's leaders and the great news is, our leaders are listening!

The Citizens League has been in existence for 50 years, promoting active citizenship and good public policy.  The key recommendations of the Citizens League report, "Moving Beyond Medicaid" can be found on their website www.citizensleague.org.

Thank you Sean, for reminding us that there are altruistically motivated, caring people, willing to spend their time and energy to come together for the greater good.  What a refreshing concept!

WEBSITE UPDATE

As most of you know, the seniorworkers.org website was updated this spring.  The new website is easy to navigate and the calendar is a great resource for you on upcoming MASWA events. One item that is still a work in progress is the membership database.  Shortly, we will be ready to unveil that piece of the website.

Once the membership database is ready, each MASWA member will be able to update their individual information. It will be the responsibility of the member to making sure their contact information is accurate and up-to-date.  We will let you know when the database feature is available along with instructions on how to update your information.

Thank you for your patience!
