PUBLIC POLICY NEWS | |
The fur is really starting to fly at the State Capitol, where legislators and Governor Dayton are grappling with how to erase the huge budget deficit facing Minnesota. The action is fast and furious, and the issues are critically important for seniors and the people who serve them. Here are a few tools you can use to follow the issues, and to join the debate if you want to voice an opinion.
The Minnesota Board on Aging sends out updates during the legislative session, including a list of specific bills that may be of interest to seniors and aging advocates. The updates are called "Senior Advocates FYI," and you can subscribe for free by sending your email address to Diane Mangan at Diane.Mangan@state.mn.us.
If there are particular bills you want to follow on a real-time basis, the Minnesota Legislature has a fabulous website, located at www.leg.state.mn.us. From there you can search the status of any bill and read the most recent version. You can search by bill number, by subject, or by author (meaning the legislators who have proposed the bill for consideration). For automatic updates, give "MyBills" a try. This free service provides personalized bill tracking and e-mail notification for current legislation.
